Trying to work in some weight training.
Running workouts are almost always on Tuesday and Saturday. Thinking of lower body training on Wednesday and Saturday as I don't have time to get in the total mileage on Tuesday plus the weights. Doing them the next day on Wednesday would allow 2 full days before Saturday. On Saturdays I can then get both in and bunch the stresses together and also have more time to recover on the weekend, and thereby giving me another 2 full days before the next Tuesday running workout. Wednesday lower body would probably be more deadlift based as it doesn't affect my legs as much prior to Saturdays which are usually harder run sessions or races. Definitely low-rep and higher weight sets closer to 2 sets of 5 reps, etc.

Opinions?

I don't think putting the stresses together is a good idea. I've been trying to do that, but wind up being sore for days on end afterward. I'll do a workout and weights on Saturday, then be unbelievably sore until Wednesday to the point that it 's still affecting my speed.

I'm conflicted on it too. I've researched that apparently doing weights before a run is best, because the CNS is fresh, and the hormonal response is better. So maybe do your weights before easy runs, with at least a day buffer before workouts. So that would be maybe the day after a workout?

I was thumbing through Outside magazine this month, the one with Trey Hardee on the cover. I think that it does state that he does his weight lifting on his track days. He is certainly not putting in distance running type of mileage but perhaps there is a reason that he does so. I think Bryan Clay does this also at least at times. Maybe I need to see what Ashton Eaton is doing since he is the runner of these decathletes.
I've not had problems with as many days of soreness as was mentioned above but I do know that I need at least 2 full days in between and before my next workout.

I struggle with the same thing - squatting makes me sore as heck. Sometimes, I think it is best to do the lifting at lunch time and and after work do the running workout before your body has a chance to get sore and still.
