Why are runners idolized for swerving off-course? Granted, Nick was kidding, but now he's praised. When Gabe Jennings dropped out of Stanford and rode his bike to Brazil, a huge thread praised him. Gabe often borrowed money from family, friends- as did Fam, who's also a hero. But when a family man is super competitive (Webb), then something's wong with him. What I don't understand, Symmonds' father is a vascular surgeon. Assuming he is still practicing and in contact with Nick, why is he so desperate for money? I understand you want to make it on your own, but I'm sure his family would foot his (pending) Olympic bill since it is quite an accomplishment and the sport pays poorly. It comes off more as needy for attention. At least he has a major primary sponsor. |
