Clay DQ'd for pushing over the 10th hurdle with his hands. Zero points means he has no shot at the A standard. This means the US will only be sending Hardee and Eaton in the decathlon, as no other decathlete has the A standard and none will achieve it in Eugene. |

dont cout out gary horn...4 events left to get ~3200 pts |

wow...two years in a row he screws up the hurdles....can't help but feel for the guy...his career essentially done now |

I would love to see Gray get it done, but add up his PR's in the next four events and they only come to 2962. He'll need a miracle. |

Clay just fouled three times in the discus. No chance he finishes now... |

Another washed up Americant. |

His name is Bryan Clay. He's an Olympic Champion. And you are...? Chances are you aren't good enough to ever be considered washed up. |

Is there any way USATF could just choose to send Clay anyway? It seems stupid to only send 2 when we have 3 A standards. |
| I think.... |

Doesn't he just have to finish like the ladies in the 10k since he is the 1 of 3 that have the A standard. Makes sense to me that as long as he finishes, he is going to londaon. |

Clay has more Olympic gold medals than Eaton and Hardee combined. ;-) |
| Awesome |

I don't think Clay has the A standard yet this year, he hasn't finished a Dec in quite some time. He may be done, but he will go down in history as one of the best athletes in the history of US Track and Field. All Hail Bryan Clay! |

Disregard. Missed the "he doesn't have the A standard" part. |
| does he have the A? |
| ||
It sounds like the OP is saying that Clay doesn't have the A standard and needs to get it at the trials. I don't really follow the event myself, so I don't know. Can someone clarify whether or not Clay has the A standard? If he does and there are only three with the standard, they'll send him as long as he finishes. |

clay does not have the A. he would need to get it today, but with 0 points in the hurdles and discus, he can't. gray horn, miller moss, and ryan harlan are the contenders for 3rd place, but also are extremely unlikely to get the A (8200 points). Looks like eaton and hardee will be the team. |

Doesn't he get an automatic bid since he's the reigning gold medalist? |

And he is only 32. The DEC is his life and is how he pays his mortgage. Can he make a comeback after this? |

That's only the rule for World Championships and not Olympics. |

36 seems very old for a decathlete. He'll never make another Olympic team. |

It was strange that the '96 gold medalist they interviewed yesterday was talking about Clay as if he was a lock but he didn't have the A standard and he's been struggling all year. Also that woman they had interviewing him admitted that this was the first track meet she's been to since high school. Solid. |

Does anyone know what this means for his sponsorship deals ? -------- The Century Council, which signed Clay to a multiyear agreement valued in the low to mid-six figures, will make Clay the centerpiece of its print ad campaign discouraging drunken driving and underage drinking. The deals Clay signed give him 10 endorsers ahead of the London Games. His partners include Oakley, Polo Ralph Lauren, BMW, BP, The Century Council, Zico Coconut Water, Deloitte, Bioenergy Ribose, Wheaties Fuel and Visa. All of those deals except for Visa and Wheaties Fuel were signed in the last six months http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2011/10/24/Marketing-and-Sponsorship/Bryan-Clay.aspx |
