Obviously at pre classic when he came in 4th place at age 18 in high school and set the HS record |

The 10K at Stanford when he beat Ritz. I know 99% of Letsrunners won't agree with this, but this when he was cemented as an amazing distance running talent, not just a miler. |

No, I totally agree with you. Another one was his American record in the 2 mile. That one really sticks out to me as well. Obviously the HS record and the AR were big, but part of Webb's greatness was his range and ability to crush it in all distances. |

When he had the integrity and desire to petition for a chance to participate in the trials (rather than submit a fake time). |

Sprinting down the backstretch on the 3rd lap of the 1500 meters in the 2005 WC. Epic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abxUL7zz1nI |

When he pushed my teammate at the end of a race back in high school. He was either a freshman or a sophomore when this guy was a senior. Since then I've liked Webb enough as an American, but never really been able to think of him as a guy I'd want to hang out with. |

Interestingly, no one has yet mentioned his AR for the mile. I think my favorite moment was when he won the 2004 Trials and crushed Stember and Lunn like they were fools. |

The AR in the mile is probably not mentioned because it was at a very low key meet under the radar. Did anyone even see it live? I remember seeing it a few days later, kind of anti-climatic. |

That was my point. It is probably the thing he is most famous for (other than maybe the HSR) but it was not one of his more exciting performances. |

The part where he grew a head of hair overnight. Really that's been his most amazing acievement. |

Sorry, missed that. You didn't say it was your favorite moment though... It was a great record but hugely underwhelming compared to many of his other performances. I'm not a competitive runner anymore, just a fan. I found his 2004 Trials win to be inspiring because it seemed to me that we finally had an American runner who had balls and who would be able to do some international damage. It was one of those "out with the old guard, in with the new" moments. It is so unfortunate that Webb ended up having a difficult time capitalizing on his greatness, but I think he inspired the current generation of runners who have closed the gap significantly with the rest of the world. |

The hair picking thing is picking nits. Look at the late Marco Pantani, he had a receding hairline changed his image by shaving his head, goatee and earing. Won some stages in the Tour de France and zingo jingo. |

It hasn't happened yet... ...and that moment would be, his retirement. |
