Wind: 0.0

Subpar performance and subpar acceleration.

If he doesn't fix his start, he won't be able to catch Bolt and Powell in the trials. Anyways...I think that he will make the team. But he's not in sub 9.80 shape YET.

Blake will be 2nd in trials and 2nd in the Olympics, Powell gets too nervous before big competition.

Last year Powell beat Blake from behind at trials. And even with that impressive top end speed, Blake never ran a major final with real competition. (Bolt, Asafa, Gay, Gatlin)

I agree with you putting Blake as silver medalist over Powell now. At the moment.

But...If Blake doesn't improve his first 50 meters...he won't be able to catch Asafa. Asafa isn't Kim Collins or Trell Kimmons.

Sme way Alan Webb pulled off the 3:53 in high school or Bob beamon pulled off a WR in Mexico City - perfect storm on a good day.

I'm flattered again by the moniker hijack.

Somebody was roasting me on another thread for being so overly-positive about Gay, I wonder what they think now.

This is really a strange result. That time sucks massively. That is a good, fast track up there, and Blake hasn't exactly been burning himself out on the circuit.

I haven't seen the race, but I suspect that he looked quite lumbering while running that kind of a time. Has he slimmed down yet?

It also calls into question the validity of his 9.84 in Cayman.

His adjusted times this year are 9.98, 9.86, 9.93, and 10.07--this from a guy who ran two adjusted 9.82's back-to-back just last season. Bolt, Powell, and I believe Gatlin are all better on the year, in terms of consistency--certainly at least Powell and Bolt.

It looks like Blake can be counted upon to deliver a 9.95 adjusted--is there anybody who could get him at trials? Carter and Frater are nowhere to be found, Clarke isn't quite that fast...if anybody gets him, it will be Ashmeade.

Blake is still solid, I wonder why he hasn't been exhibiting the polish that he showed last year. Maybe there is something wrong with him that prevents him from really winding it up. Maybe, just maybe, he is holding back, getting race-sharp without pushing, preserving his body.

Anybody find a vid?

Looked bad. I think it's time to raise some concerns about his fitness. I don't think he's capable of running under 9.9x right now for whatever reason. Early peak maybe?

A spot for him on the Jamaica team is no longer a given. Bolt is clearly the front-runner in the 100m now and most likely the 200m as well.

I don't think Blake can beat Bolt or Powell. Only one other guy has to beat him to knock him out..

Lacklustre start, lacklustre field, coolish day. Relax people - it was one race in a two-bit meet. Hardly the death knell for Blake's Olympic hopes.

I have to agree that it worries me that he has struggled to run 9.9 and 10.0. Trell Kimmons isn't usain bolt or asafa powell. Powells last race saw him get out ood and finish well despite Bolt catching him. Bolt had to run 9.7 to do so. He for sure wont medal @ the Olympics if he continues running like this.
I mean Gay ran 10.00 into a 1.5 headwind being careful against a field of nobody's. Im not going to say what I really think because even Bolt has started looking human. Im guessing if he gets beat they'll say he was partying or missed training due to the car accident lol

Remember the quote from Asafa Powell during the Jamaican Nationals, when a (slightly?) injured Yohan Blake didn't make the team:

Sprinting is a big man sport, not a little boy sport

I think, come the Jamaican OT, one Yohan Blake has a score to settle.

This is Gay's chance. I think he can be in PR shape by the games. I've always felt that if he's perfectly healthy for a full year he is as good as bolt.

I refuse to relax! He should be running 9.90 in his sleep at this stage - in a snowstorm or in the Sahara. As a matter of fact, I will get little sleep tonight!

I agree, except for Bolt's 9.58. If Bolt runs anywhere close to that, he wins. I'm fairly confident that Gay is physically incapable of running 9.5. No one can except for Bolt.

Gay can maybe go as fast as 9.63-9.65 with a +2.0 wind and a great start, but that's about it. Problem is, if Bolt gets a +2.0 wind, he might pop off something in the 9.5 low range.

I disagree about the quality of the lineup. The meet was certainly not diamond league quality, but it was pretty solid for men's 100m: Blake, Kimmons, Clarke, Ndure, Bailey

Blake wont be winning anything racing like that. Its confusing becuase he hasnt traveled or raced much but yet he is struggling against B quality field. That silver medal he was supposedly to be winning is not happening.
