First 800 in 2:01
700 to 1500 in 1:46:xx

Never been anything like it before or since. El G and Lagat run the greatest 1500 meter race in history in an Olympic Final.

I'll post the best 5000 meter race tomorrow.

Rui MF Silva. My favourite athlete of all time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rui_Silva

Olympic, World and European medals, indoor & outdoor.

1:44 for 800m and 1:02:40 for half marathon. What an absolute beast of a man. So underrated.

Didn't Abdi Bile have similar splits when he won his world champ title ?

you'd think that a historian would have mentioned abdi bile's last 800m in the aforementioned '87 wc's.

It never ceases to amaze me how the top tier guys like ElG can look like they are literally jogging a 60" quarter. Awesome to see.

Rui Silva actually had the fastest last 800 out of anyone in that race.
El G - 1:46.7
Silva - 1:46.2
I can't even fathom how guys can close like this, even after "jogging" the first 700m at 60 sec 400m pace. Love it.

I agree with Silva's awesomeness, but I have to disagree about the 0.5 s difference you're ascribing to Silva. If you look at their separation at 780 m to go *and* at the finish line, it's basically the same (~ 4 m). They're moving around 7 m/s, so Silva should be about 3.5 m further back at 780 m to go than at the finish. I just don't see it.

But maybe I'm being too nitpicky. No disrespect meant. :)
wtf???

El G runs the first 800 in lane 2 while Lagat is on the rail for the whole race.

Perhaps what was meant was that Silva had the fastest last 400 out of anyone in that race. That is certainly true as he came from way back with 400m to go. In fact, if my eyes do not deceive me he appears to be coming from last place with 550 to go.

Props to Silva, but I hate when people say that "he could've won the race". Patently false.

Bile was about 2:04 at 800. Did close his last 800 in 1:46 going away from Cram.

re: "El G runs the first 800 in lane 2"

At a 2:01 pace it really doesn't matter; it makes a difference on the last lap, which is were the majority of your energy is spent.

El G had/has the fastest last 800m of ANY Olympic 1500m. Look it up. Don't use your own judgment and guessing. The facts are correct.
