Ajee Wilson and Amy Weissenbach comfortably beat her. Ouch. |

That was Britain's Jemma Simpson who got beat, but Jenny easily beat both of them. |

No the 2 simpsons are switched Jenny was DFL the whole way |

actually, they were switched in the results jenny was last in 2:05, jemma was in the middle. so the OP is right. jenny was awful, pretty impressive by the high schoolers, although i wonder if they can go faster later this year and threaten that legendary high school record (2:00.07 iirc?) |

I was thinking the same thing. It's great that Jenny is working on her speed, but at this rate she is getting know where. |

Since leaving Wetmore and Colorado, Simpson has PRed in only one event--the 800. All her other PRs go back to 2009. It's bizarre to say, but the worst thing that happened to her career was winning Worlds, because that meant she would stay with her current coach, and that is a dead end. |

Yes it's bizarre to say that a world title is a dead end. I too thought it was idiotic that she'd leave wetmore (and that anyone would from a workout perspective) but she did win world's. It's sort of like Webb & Razcko. He did run 1:43 and 3:46. I can't argue too much with that even if he never got the peaks right. People do forget that under Wetmore simpson was a disaster at NCAA xc as a 3:59 1,500 runner. |

Do people also forget that she finished 2nd twice? I'd hardly label that as a disaster. |

Let's not forget that in 2008, said xc disaster, while still a student under Wetmore, ran in the Olympic Final and set a US record in the SC. The 3:59 came AFTER the 2009 XC disaster, as did her 5th place in the WC final of the Steeple and another AR. Speed Kills. Those that don't have it make believe that XC actually means someting (other than base training). |

Who was she training with when she ran the 9:12 steeplechase, which was by far her best performance? |

She looked sickly thin to me today. |

The XC issue happened in 2009. She had already run 9:12 and 3:59 the summer prior. You have it backwards. |

Ask Rojo. He seems to be the one perplexed by the whole thing. |

I agree with you but using slogans like "speed kills" make you sound like you're talking out your ass. |

come on. she won how many titles under wetmore? she set how many collegiate records? i don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head but i'd guess 3 national titles and 4-5 collegiate records. you're picking out one race where she had a meltdown. i'm sure you've had a few athletes lose their head in big competitions, i know i have and pretty much every other coach i know can relate. |

On a related note Jeannie Longo at the age of 51 beat two women half her age in a world championship race a couple of years ago. The look on their (youngins) faces being beat by a legend is priceless. Search youtube for this 51 year old Longo-Ciprelli takes 5th - from Universal Sports http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMBlzfmwONo |
