He's read too many of his press clippings. He thought he could come to Des Moines and just dominate. But it doensn't work that way. You have to put out every time. Sorry, Kyle Merber, but you just got PWND!!!! IN FACT, YOU PWNED YOURSELF!!!!

But "In the end, the title will mean more to Merber than it will for McEntee."

The NCAA is to blame. He ran faster than anyone else this season AND is a favorite on letsrun. They should not have put him in a heat with former champions like Batty and Fernandez and other fast guys likes Hill. They shoulod have just given him a bye to the final - as they should have done with Loxsom. And while they're at it, they should have just awarded Chris Derrick the 10k title. Guys who run fast earlier in the season should not have to qualify! It's not fair!

Ya'll better watch out Lawi is back in town. Rumours of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

A lot of you guys probably don't remember Merber posting anonymously - but easy to figure out - about Van Cortlandt before he was even that good in high school. I'll probably always be a fan so this was disappointing.

Yes let's baby everyone, because being a great runner never involves more than one great race a year. What a fantastic idea.

I've been a vocal fan of Kyle's since HS. Absent injury this is a stinker of a race, plain and simple.
Plenty of racing to come this summer.
I believe he is a legit 3:33/3:50 talent. I expect to see him in the trials final. 3:36 was not a fluke. Missing the injury year really hurt his development.

It was a long time ago - obviously - but I think he was actually asking advice about running VCP. I guess I can try to find the thread. Might have been junior year.

Merber started a thread on Letsrun asking whether he should "whether an athlete feeling sick" should still run in the Milrose Games". That night he won the Milrose Mile- and revealed it was him the next day....

How did it hurt his development?

I think nearly everyone in the world would skip a year if they could go from 3:57 in the mile to 3:35 in the 1,500. That's pretty good development.
