Bolt had a great start. Powell was able to stay with him until the last 10-15m and was rewarded with a 9.85. The win was +.6 I think. Powell was visibly happy afterwards.

Great run by Powell, he really believed he could win this one, and was visibly disappointed when he lost. This race just proves how great Bolt is though. Even though Powell had nearly a perfect race it still wasnt quite enough. That was fun to watch!

That was the best race I've seen from A. Powell other than the last time he beat T. Gay in in 09' or 10'.

Powell 9.85 (+0.6)

RT's were OK this time

New PR for Warner, 10.20 for 4th place.

I know Bolt won, but POWELL!

Who the F saw that coming? Bolt was better in Rome, but Powell is showing the kind of improvement one wants to see.

His race looked the same as ever, except that he kept moving from 70-100m, even as Bolt passed him. Actually, I think that Powell stayed at his max top speed longer than he usually does, maybe all the way to 75 or 80m, which is where I think he improved by the .02 His start looked just a bit more ragged than usual, it will be nice to see a slow-mo.

This was a 9.88 adjusted, compared to his 9.90 adjusted against Gatlin.

Bolt's was a 9.82 adjusted, .08 off his 9.74 adjusted from Rome. Probably attributable to his having gripped in order to pass Powell. Hard to tell from the camera angle, but he didn't look to be cycling as well as in Rome, trying too hard for the win.

Damn Bolt is fast, I thought that Powell had him this time.

Anybody know what the temperature was like?

So a 9.82 wind corrected for Bolt. Seriously? First Bekele runs a 13:00 5k and now this? What a disappointing meet.

James--

I still think that his win at last year's nationals was his finest race. He came from behind to beat Blake!

If Bolt can win like this against Powell when Powell is actually trying, then nobody has a chance at beating Bolt, IF Bolt runs his own race as he did in Rome.

If he can be made to grip, I think that he tightens up too much. He passed Powell this time, but will he be able to do it again when Powell is in better shape, and will he be able to do it to Blake if Blake finds himself ahead?

I could see someone getting the better of Bolt later in the season if Bolt grips too much.

If not, he will be invincible, like '08 and '09

I am not 100% sure on the rules, but in the straight ahead shot, about 10 meters (or so) from the finish, you can clearly see Powell step on the lane divider. While not impeding the runner in the other lane, I do remember people in the last Olympics (200m?) getting DQ'd for this. Is this okay in the 100?

57F? Seriously?

That's easily worth .10 in my experience, possibly even .20.

That makes it one of Powell's finest ever races, and puts Bolt in the stratosphere, of course.

It's also great for Warner, who is rounding into shape after a good indoor season.

I hate/love Powell.
Whaaat?

Also remember that 9.77 for Bolt in Brussels (2008)...with negative wind...a little rain and cold...and Powell leading up to 80m and finally running 9.83

So for me is the 3rd best race for him against Bolt.

1-Powell beating Bolt in Stockolm (2008)
2-Bolt defeating Powell in Brussels (2008)
3-This race.

Also, I think is the 3rd best mark from Powell running against Bolt.

9.83 in Brussels
9.84 in Berlin WC's
9.85 today

Although I'm not an official, I think it's OK in the 100 if you don't impede.

I've seen guys do it and not get DQ'd. I have also seen somebody step actually over the line and GET DQ'd, but it was near the start and was probably ruled to impede, although in actual fact it didn't.

I have also seen a guy in the outside lane get DQ'd for his foot going over the line at about the 40m mark.

Anybody know the actual rule? I always just stay in my lane.

It's not necessarily the time, VenTARD, but how it was achieved.

Apart from his complete race, look at the temperature, YOU IDIOT.

Bolt just simply has a better finish than anyone. It's as if his creatine phosphate energy stores allow for 1 second more at the top end than anyone else.

Ben--

I think Bolt basically gave Powell the race in Stockholm, IIRC.

BTW, seeing this from Powell is amazing. This guy has been so good, for so long.

He must have seen what Ashmeade has been doing, and gotten a bit nervous.

Now, if Gay actually runs in NYC, we will have seen all the big guns.
