Huge improvement for this guy this year (1:46.65). First in the 800 in the west. He was a top junior a few years ago, but I don't believe he did much since. I have never seen him mentioned anywhere...

Another Canadian on the podium at NCAA? Who knows anything about him? Olympics this year?

In an interview he says he plans to represent Jamaica in London, if he gets the standard.

That sucks...

Did he say why?

Is it because of Canada's strange qualifying system?

Didn't he represent Canada a few years ago as a junior?

Now even faster (1.46.41), NCAA finalist, but still not the B.

I hope that he gets the A this week and he chooses to represent Canada.

So West grows up in Canada...develops here, and then wants to piss on the pace and run for Jamaica. Nice. Take a hike buddy.

So do many Canadians, but even if he hits the A, under Canada's ridiculous system he will STILL have to repeat with ANOTHER A or B to qualify.

He will probably show up at one of the NTL meets, where he will hit the B. Worse case he will hit the B at Nationals.

Ok, so Canada may be losing Ricky West to Jamaica (or not), but is Canada gaining Daundre Barnaby (in the 400m)?

Yes, he grew up in Canada, but wasn't he born in Jamaica, move to Canada when he was 9 and then moved to the US about 6 years ago?

He now has 2 B times to his credit.

He was never listed on the Canadian ranking until recently...

Is he thinking about running for Canada?

Barnaby is registered for the Canadian trials. Ricky West isn't (yet)...

Ricky West is listed in the 800m at tonight's American Milers series. He's the class of the field as he is 1 sec faster than the second seed. He's listed as a Canadian. I wonder if that means anything?

He really should be in Victoria, racing in the NTl tonight, which is much stronger. West is also listed in this weekend's race in the American Milers series. He's over half a second faster than the second seed, the junior McBride. Although this is great for McBride, I don't think that this is really good for West's Olympic aspirations. As I said, he should be racing the NTL series instead.

BTW: he is now only the second fastest Canadian in 2012...
