1:13 in the Portland Half Marathon in the middle of "marathon training" is AWESOME. I am sure that this board will find something negative to say but I wanted to let you know what an inspiration to all of us you are. I know that the splits were not favorable and that you consistently faded over each 5k, but that is part of having tired legs during "marathon training". As someone that appreciates how difficult it is to have a baby and train, I say you go girl. People don't appreciate the additional time it takes to take the little brat to the nanny or the stress of having to listen to your husband complain about his daily care. You are a great role model to all of us.

the course wasn't easy either, pretty hilly through SE portland neighborhoods. she looked really relaxed, her leg speed seemed good, but i think she needs to work on her foot speed before london.

Good point. I forgot to include course difficulty or weather. Something that really can create problems for us during "marathon training". What an inspiration. Gold Medal for sure. Shalane and Desi will not be within 5 miutes in London. Those 2 are almost cheating by training without a child. I don't know if you are aware of this because Kara has kept it on the DL but she has a child.

Let's be honest here. We all know Adam is taking care of the child. Let's not use him as an excuse.

She ran 2 minutes faster than Lance ran today at the end of a triathlon. So what do we think Lance can run for a full. That is where Kara is right now.

And all parts of a wheel rotate at the same speed too.

1:13:05 would have been 2 minutes faster if not for the hills. Another 2 minutes for the rain. Another 2 minutes for fatigue from training. 2 minutes for the baby. 2 minutes for fear because it was in Portland and Alberto could have ambushed her at any corner. 2 miutes for lack of competition.

Obviously she is in 63 minute shape in the right race.

Go Kara

Obviously. Thank you for this.

Two other questions for the LR community...

Given this performance, how fast can she do 12x400 with short recoveries?

Should she move out to ultra-marathons? Is her refusal to move further out a lack of courage or toughness or both?

Excellent questions.

12 x 400 @ 66.7 and that is with Breast feeding during the intervals. Word on the street is that she has a kid.

Obviously EVERYONE should move to Ultra's if they want to be a REAL runner.

Yes but the HM at the end of an half Ironman is on average only 12.5-12.8 miles bc of T1/T2 and the 10% rule.

"The horse only jumps as high as it has to"

She won yet another decently competitive RnR race. That's all that counts - and on the way, she got a great MP tempo run in.

Jealous?

certainly not! now that she's run a couple marathons it's clearly time for her to get back to racing on the track. i mean, just think of what she could run in 10k given her huge base right now! but since she doesn't have the knowledge that the letsrun community does (does she even know she has a child???????????????????), by the time she figures out that her best event is the 10k on the track, it will be time for her to move back up to the marathon. just think of what she could run once she adds a few miles to that track speed!!!!
Too much time on your hands?
