Alan. It all comes down to this. All your past success and failures. All your triumps and set-backs. Now's your chance to shine, my man. I want to see you cross that line in first place and let out a primal scream of passionate glory like you did after winning the trials years ago. You can do this. We need you to do this. Other than you, the best chance America has is a kid who hasn't even run faster than your high school time. We need Webb. All you haters, shut your V-holes. Believe in something for once in your life. This thread is for all those that believe - Those that believe in the comeback. Those the believe in his victory! THOSE THAT BELIEVE IN ALAN WEBB. Who's with me? |

Umm, no. It is who's, as in who is. Whose is possessive, as in "whose red car is that". It is really sad when you correct someones grammar and you are wrong. Go Webb! |

I'm not too high on Alan Webb, but I know this is supposed to be a Webb support thread so I'll try to keep the bashing to a minimum. I will say this though: If you're hoping for a Webb comeback victory, don't count on it happening at Pre. Webb is greatly lacking in sharpness at this point. I wouldn't expect a win against a good field by June 2nd. I think he'll BARELY be ready for fast racing by the Trials. So basically, I'm not saying he can't make a comeback this year. But he won't be a factor at Pre. Best case scenario for Webb is that he does just enough at the Trials to make the team, and then we see some world class racing from him in July. |

Wow. I just looked at the start list. That's a stacked field. If Webb actually runs in the Bowerman Mile (rather than the International Mile) he'll have to beat the gold, silver, and bronze medalists from last years WCs. Plus a few other solid runners. NOT HAPPENING. Like I said, he's not ready for that. |

I'm as big of a Webb fan as anyone and I'm pulling big for him in this umpeenth comeback, but his outdoor season so far: Florida Relays 800 1:54 (8th of 10) 1500 3:54 (13th of 14) GMU Invite 1500 3:43 (4th of 13) 5000 14:15 (1st of 23) Payton Jordan 1500 3:38 (11th of 13) 5000 13:49 (15th of 25) Duke Twilight 800 1:51 (6th of 7) So... one win, one fourth, everything else back half of the field or almost DFL. And this is against mostly mediocre collegiate talent, not against world class fields. He's going to have his hands full just trying to make a respectable run at 3:35.5 en route, never mind trying to compete against the best milers in the world. |

It'd be the comeback of the decade and one for the story books. |

Get on the comeback train now or you're gonna get left in the station. Alan is going to not only win bowerman, the trials in the 1500 and 5K (yes, he is going to get the trials A standard in time) and the olympic 1500 but he is going to break El G's world record in the olympic final. Then double back and get a silver in the 5K. I AM SO JUICED FOR HIM TO DESTROY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Of course I'm rooting for Webb, have been a fan of his for a while. But he needs to be thinking in baby steps. He said he doesn't want to think too much about the past and move forward. It wouldn't be smart of him to think about winning the Mile. Normally he doesn't want to enter races he can't win, but this is an Olympic year so he needs to chase times and experience. Clearly he won't win, but anything under 3:54 would be a very good sign for him. Hopefully he hits the A this Friday, but if not, then his goal would be to hit 3:35 at the 1500m mark. He could run a 30 second last 100m and finish last for all he cares. The most important thing would be for him to get the standard instead of racing as if he'll try to win in a race that will likely be a sub 3:49 mile. If he hits the A Friday, then he should shoot for something under 3:54 for the mile and he would be exactly where he needs to be at this point |

The absolute best I can root for is a top-3 placing--which is to say, third--and that strikes me as a 2% shot. I'm being real. You can call me a true Webb fan. I've contributed to a fair share of threads over the past seven years; I'm usually the guy telling the haters that it ain't over till the bald baby wings..... Once or twice he's come through and I felt vindicated. But generally he doesn't. In fact, he almost never comes through. Webb is a heartbreaker. It would be an amazing vindication if he came in third, much less first. But I just don't see it. The reasonable best he is likely to do is get beat after a reasonably--and therefore surprisingly, hearteningly--competitive run. That strikes me as a 35% shot. Much more likely is that he'll go down in flames yet one more time. I put that at a 50% shot. That leaves a 13% chance that he'll do none of the above, but will just end up two-thirds of the way back. The haters will crow. The Webb-can-still-be-God crowd will say, "He's going to surprise you at the trials." |

I love this post - 'Once or twice he's come through and I felt vindicated. But generally he doesn't. In fact, he almost never comes through.' perfect pitch writing. |

If you're going to correct the grammar in the original post, then edit "those that believe in alan webb" to "those who believe in alan webb." Also, Webb has been done for ages. Nobody cares.
