2:03.7 I heard she has run a 54 400m. Anyone know if that is accurate? |
| Incredible range |

That is accurate. She has incredible range. In her first two races of the season, I saw her run a solo 9:32 3000 and a 56 400, both for the win by a lot. She ran 2:05 a couple weeks ago...I'm going to go with 2:04.2. She is NOT a pure miler...might even be better at the 800 at this stage (she split 2:03 last year, going 58-65. WOW.) |

800 is her best event. Wind will be a factor on that track if tomorrow is like today. She'll be right around 2:05. Looking forward to seeing her run. Loucks is a great meet. I'll be interested to see what events the North Shore girls run - Nadel and Nerud are appearing on both the 1600 and 3200 seed lists and Nerud is also listed for the 800 and steeple. |

Jessica Judd (GBR) ran 56, 2.02, 4.14 (1500), 9.08 (3000) last year at the same age - no reason why Mary Cain shouldn't do that this year. Intead of focusing on some meaningless HS meets, however, perhaps she could look to place well at World Juniors this summer (Barcelona) - that's what Ajee Wilson did (world youth last year), and frankly that is more impressive than running solo time-trials in April/May. Then when she gets to the NCAA she isn't freaked out about the Africans (as too many Americans are)if she hopes to step up to worlds at the senior level either during or after College. No reason why she can't get to sub-4.00 in College. Jenny Barringer did, so MC should be expecting (not just wishful thinking) to do that then as well. |

Her confidence has to be sky high at this point. I think if she goes out in 59x she can come home in at least 64 or better. She finished the Penn R mile in 62.5! I will say 2:03.5, if as stated in another post, the wind is not a major factor. Give us your best Mary!!! |

Mary Cain is a obviously a very talented athlete. Though she is a horrible teammate. She no longer trains under coach or with the girls on her team. Let it be known that the coach of Bronxville is Jim Mitchell. Over the last 34 years Mitchell has won 10 New York State Cross Country Championships, 15 4x800 New York State Championships titles, 4 National Relay Championships (two 4xMiles and two 4x800s), and a national relay record in the 4xMile. So it is quite clear he knows what he is doing. Mary Cain now runs with the boys team and refuses to run on any of the girls team relays. College coaches take notice! |

She also closed last week's 4:17.1 1500 in 61.xx. Very impressive. She's improving nicely throughout the season. It might be pretty windy today, but I'll go with 2:03 high if she gets after it. 2:04 might be more realistic given conditions. And read the other thread if you want to know about Mary and her team. She is a great girl just doing what's best for her to train her hardest and compete to her full potential. |

This girl is either going to be a future olympian or the biggest bust in quite a long time. Hoping for the former...a lot. |

I was there and have unofficial splits of 29, 60 low, 1:31, 2:03. She had company for 600 (Alexis Panisse) and pulled away for the win. The conditions at White Plains were not ideal - gusting wind and temps in the mid 60's. |
