Cotto came to fight at the MGM Grand Garden, attacking Mayweather and landing heavy blows with both fists. The Puerto Rican busted Mayweather's nose and lip during the Do you think FWJ can run 6 miles at 5:45-6 minute pace? middle rounds and deserved better than the judges' scorecards of 117-111, 117-111 and 118-110. Mayweather's stamina has rarely been tested as strongly as it was on this night and the 35-year-old pound-for-pound king took well over an hour to appear for his post-fight press conference as he mixed celebrations with receiving treatment for his wounds. But he traced his eventual success to that night in Orlando and the base of endurance he built up over the course of a camp that spanned more than two months. "The first day back I ran six miles," Mayweather said. "I hadn't done anything for nine months and I just went out and ran six miles. Cotto had fought not that long ago, so I had to get my endurance in. Training camp started right then. I was running a lot, 5:45 or 6:00 minute miles. It all set me up." |

A resounding yes. Try standing up on your toes in the ring for 12 rounds while throwing and dodging punches. Boxers have to work on their aerobic endurance in order to stand a chance in the ring and to make it to the end of the fight. |

He has been training around 5-10 hours a day since he was 10, His aerobic house is built, only thing he will lose now is his speed, but in the fight against Cotto we saw he has plenty left. I think he could run sub70 minute half-marathon |

Well he did just run a 34:16 5k in April. I think he used or still does 50 mpw during aerobic buildups. |

No I saw all of the 24/7 episodes, he was out of breath as he was trotting. I can say easily no! |

his advisor leonard ellerbe was 1 second ahead of him, maybe they were running together, i would be surprised if he was really trying and could not run 10 minute miles, that is a brisk walking pace. |

He was jacking around obviously. They showed some of it in 24/7 he was running around backwards and being a fool for most of it |

Floyd has ALWAYS downplayed his training volume in between camps. This is a farce. He is non-stop one of the hardest working athletes today, all sports, probably all time. The reason he started camp with a 6 mile run is that he never really drops the training. By chance I bumped into him at a Grand Rapids hotel where we used the pool for a Girl Scouts pool party, and where Floyd stayed when he was in GR because he found it was a PITA trying to buy a house here (seller would always find out who the buyer was & jack up the price). He had a posse but he was approachable. I had to clear past a flunky though! He moved on me, and said whats up. I said I just wanna say hi to Floyd and talk training, and the really big dude moved aside. When I told Floyd that, as a runner, I admired the fact that in order to succeed as a boxer he needs to do his road work or he'd get killed in the ring, he said he typically runs 10 miles and he does them at a 5 minute pace (he enjoyed that chat!). He asked me if that is fast, with that smarta$$ gleam in his eye, knowing darn well how fast that is. That's the gleam that makes him tough to dislike. He is equal parts low class ghetto punk & charmer. I told him that if he is running 10 miles @ 5 min pace that he needs to take up road racing as soon as he retires. He is now 35 years old! I have no idea how close to 5 min pace he was, or is, or of what he might be capable. I can certainly vouch for his fitness. As a runner you are used to looking a fit person, and looking at other fit people. He is a few levels beyond that. At roughly the same weight as me (140s) he is clearly ripped with lots of muscle where I do not have it, with physical poise, grace & balance that never goes away. However, if you notice boxers legs sometime, somehow, below those basketball shorts that everybody wears now, you'll notice that they carry very little muscle mass in their legs. Their legs are kind of spindly looking. I think I probably had a lot more muscle mass in my legs, just as he had a lot more upper body - each where we need it. Did you notice how much less of a jerk he was in the Cotto buildup? I liked that. Without my hometown connection I probably wouldnt follow Floyd at all, but it's easy as the Grand Rapids Press covers fight buildups, court cases and other Floyd dramas, so it falls in my lap. I've never PPV his fights but I follow in every other way, usually, except when it's too late then I just wake up and find out the result. Floyd won. 43-0. I think he should retire. It would be sweet to see him hand it to Pacquiao first though. |

Maybe he ran mile intervals with breaks in 5:40, but I find it unlikely he could tempo a whole 5miles at 5:40 pace |

It's just a charity run. He's a boxer I doubt he's worried about his 5k time. Yep doesn't look like he took it too seriously. Image: http://i.imgur.com/Q9inw.jpg |

Manny Pacquiano would smoke him in a marathon. It might be close in the half. 10k Mayweather might win. Interestingly, boxers were late to add epo to their PED stack. I believe Pacquiano was one of the first. |

Hard work, dedication. Manny Pacquiao ran the same 5k as Mayweather under a pseudonym and finished DFL. Check out 3:40 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruGn2ab1WVw |

thats funny! "Go Pacquiao" haha... OK so Floyd can only temper his nature so much. He is still an offputting individual & doesn't seem to know any other way. |

It's different kinds of cardio. I remember seeing a video on here of Josh Rohatinsky and one of his friends boxing for fun and after a minute, they were dying for air. A few years ago, I trained at an MMA gym and at the time, I was probably worth a 4:45 mile. My first 4-6 weeks, I was dying and gasping for air at every single practice. After three months, my cardio was leagues better and turned into one of my strengths, despite stopping running. I wanted to see how my running cardio was affected and I ran an all-out mile in 5:15. Floyd could run that fast potentially, if he quit boxing, but he can't do that now. |
