First distance run ever - do I have any talent 5/6/2012 8:47PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I am a fairly athletic guy from a power/speed background. Have never done anything more than a 10min slow jog in my life.

Went out yesterday and tried a 12 minute longer run for fun. Didn't push that hard but I was pretty beat at end. Ran just over 2 miles.

Any chance to do ok in a local mile or 5k race if I trained or ran at all?

If you did actually run 2+ miles in 12 minutes off of no training, then yes you are talented. I would think sub 17min 5k would be easy to attain with enough work, but anything after that is pure speculation. Everyone responds differently to training.

well it was like 2.02 miles or something like that. plus I am not un-fit. I play rec sports occasionally and go hiking and stuff and I sprinted a couple years ago (100m) so I know how to run with proper form etc.

sub 17 would be amazing. by buddies girlfriend ran a 17:40 in a local 5k and she is a great distance runner.
