Damn good race, Colonial with three guys returning next year looks scary. Not really sure where these times are on a national ranking level right now, but this is easily the deepest HS 4x800 I've ever seen (outside of Allstar teams, Penn Relays, etc). Looks like Florida distance running is finally catching up to the rest of the nation

These are the number 2,3, and 4 times in the nation right now. I can't imagine how much it would suck to run 7:42 and come in third.

Ohio, 2003:

1) North Canton Hoover 7:41.74
2) Wadsworth 7:42.21
3) Hilliard Davidson 7:42.78
4) Cincinnati St. Xavier 7:42.79

I'm sure there are other states that have had faster races (though that might be the best mix of fast and close -- 4 teams sub-7:43 AND within 1.05 seconds).

California does not run the 4 x 800 (I wish they would) but you would see better times there.

By the way, we don't have State for another month. Haven't even had our league meet yet. So im guessing you started league, section/regionals trials snd finals at the beginning of April? Arcadia and Penn Relays competing with district meets? Doesnt make sense. Why have the state meet so early?

It was 90 degrees Saturday. In a month it will be 95 degrees and high humidity.

I'm a coach down in Dade County. Florida doesn't have an indoor season and with the weather so nice/unbearably hot year-round, we start practices for Outdoor in late January and open the season in late February. I agree that it's a bad system for the distance kids, especially for the ones who want to go to Nationals which isn't until mid-June, a month and a half after the state meet. On the plus side, sprinters generally have the best competition in the nation down here

Does PA have an all-classes state meet? The Florida results above are just for class 4A. In total (all 4 classes), Florida had 14 teams go sub-8:00 at the state meet this year, and 20 total under 8:02.

For indoor- yes. For outdoor- no. The PA results here from 2009 are for AAA. There are only 2 classifications, AA and AAA, which may be because of a smaller population (compared to FL and CA). I checked the AA results from 2009, and only 1 team was sub-8, but usually there are 4-6 by my estimate.

Wow, that's even more impressive then! By the way, if there are only two classes, why not A and AA?
AA v AAA

I think b/c it is less confusing as to which one is bigger. If you have A or AA, it begs the question--which are the bigger schools.

With AA and AAA---you assume AAA is bigger. My two cents, just trying to justify a reason for it.

PA has 4 classifications in football, basketball, and baseball. These are A, AA, 3A, and 4A, with 4A being the largest. In other sports, I believe there are fewer schools that field teams, so there would be less competition in each classification. Merging 3A and 4A into 3A, and AA and A into AA, makes it easier to organize, and also more competitive. Again, this is just my speculation and I may be wrong.

To answer your question a little more succinctly, if they used "AA" for schools that are "AAAA" or "AAA" in other sports, it would probably just cause additional confusion. This way, all the sports teams at a given school are either one classification, or one above/below it.

Because afternoon track practice in the mid to high 90's and kids would literally be dropping dead of heat stroke. School lets out in the next few weeks anyway because it cost too much to air condition all the classrooms.

Real reason for having the state track meets so early is, so they can get Spring Football Practice started.

Indiana has 1 class. 13, 14, and 16 teams under 8 in the last three years.
