I don't understand why anyone has a fascination with baseball. Seriously. That sport and the NBA as well. Why does anyone care? Millionaires who play a kids game. And people still put out the money to support that.

Nothing is more childlike than running, yet in a little over a month at the Olympic trails, then again later at the Olympics, we'll all be drooling over athletes running.

I'm a NYer but have never been impressed with Jeter (or baseball, for that matter). I've gotta say, though, he's playing really, really well. Rodriguez is doing all right, too.

This is going to betray my age a bit. But some years back MLB has a slogan "Baseball fever...catch it". It was just a slogan yet that is what baseball has been for me my whole life. I go through long stretches of never really caring about the sport. But then for some reason I go through phases where I suddenly get obsessed with it for a time. It really is like a fever that lasts for awhile then goes away. I'm not obsessed with it right now. But I'm much more interested in it than any of the other major pro sports.

How could someone consider themselves a sports fan and not like baseball? Honestly. The NBA I could understand although for the last two years the league has been flooded with talent. Baseball though, is badass.

I like how Cardinal fans feel betrayed by a probable HOFer that played his best 10yrs with their club, won two rings and multiple MVPs before leaving without destroying the club with a massive franchise killing contract. Suck it up already St Louis.

I've read in fangraphs that people are saying in the past 2 years, Pujols' pitch selection has become less selective. He's swinging at more stuff basically.

we are more betrayed @ the way he left, making his decision to sign for $240mil sounding all pious and $hit. Not to mention he opted to associate himself "contractually" with angels organization after his retirement after he spent years talking about being a cardinal for life. We got the best years out of him, we are done w/ him... worse luck to him and the angels now hahah.

I've seen a handful of his at bats this season and that is exactly it. Its kind of weird because he looks healthy. He still seems to have that razor like focus at the plate. But he is swinging at bad pitches and also simply missing hittable balls. He did this the beginning of the season last year just not quite as bad. But I recall he was hitting .250 or worst through the early part of the summer and going after a lot of pitches outside the strike zone. Then he stopped doing it and finished just barely under .300 with about 30 HRs. But it appears he reverted.

I think he is simply starting to feel some age and doesn't quite have the bat speed. In his prime two years ago I noticed he actually swung a lot out of the strike zone. But they were hits. I remember seeing him hit a near shoulder height fast ball and he slapped it for a single like it was no problem.

I imagine he will finally listen to his body and not the $240 million and start playing within himself here pretty soon.

"and going after a lot of pitches outside the strike zone."

From the games I've seen this year, they better be swinging at pitches out of the zone, otherwise they'll be going down looking.
