40 bucks for a 5k? sounds a little over priced to me. |

I've given up on running 5Ks with ridiculous entry fees like that. Runners are being exploited left and right. |

my friend is doing the race timing for it, and he said it is only families doing it. winning time expected to be no faster than 22 minutes. gift card prizes (not sure if age group win / attendance prizes). everyone and their brother is doing a 5k to raise awareness for blah blah blah, and more and more overweight upper middle class vibram fatties are fronting the bill. |

I have mostly converted to trail races where you can go for a 1-2 hour adventure for 20 or 30 bucks. Some are a little higher. I still run some roadraces but rarely pay over $20. |

Same here. I heard a couple of "runners" talking about an upcoming 5K and they were excited it ONLY cost $25. |

email trishoberweis@gmail.com (the race director), and let her know that 40 bucks is outrageous. subject 'tiger 5k' |

How about you leave people's email addresses off the message board and let the market decide whether it is too pricey. If you think it is too expensive, don't pay the entry fee. Why do you think that your definition of "too expensive" is correct? The true definition is whatever keeps people from signing up. You folks are insufferable. |

Let's make a law that prohibits anyone from charging more than $10 for a race! I should get into races for free! I deserve lower prices! |

Not only are entry fees going up but the race directors dont seem to care about their runners. I could cite many recent examples of total screwups but we've all seen them. The list is endless. I'm at the end of my rope with paying outrageous fees to support this or that cause and then being treated like cattle. I'm actually thinking about giving up racing completely and just training. I would save a lot of money both in terms of race fees and travel expenses. I've been racing for 54 years but the lack of support for runners after the check has cleared is just absurd. They are pissing on our legs and calling it champagne! |

Prices here for races in the DC area have really gotten out of hand. Many 5Ks are $40 and there was a 10 Miler the other day that was $65. I refuse to pay these prices for races. (I paid $40 once for a 5K because I knew there were people there running who could run faster than 16:30). I had to forget about running the Rock and Roll National Half Marathon because they wanted $95 for an early Bird price (ridiculous). I just ran the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler two weeks later for $38 (good deal considering caliber of the race). The sad fact of the matter is that since running is booming with the average slow joe, demand increases and prices go up. I tend to run the cheaper races though. |

Apparently a PTA fundraiser in Edwardsville, Il. $20 in advance and $40 on race day. Not one of the burning issues of the day, IMHO. |

Not only that, but I've seen some 5k's where I live that much and not even be officially timed (with a chip). I run rogue in those. |

The going rate around here is $35. If my wife and I run it costs $70. I don't run road 5Ks anymore. Not worth it. |

I don't really bother with road races anymore unless I expect to win decent prize money that will more than offset the cost of the entry + travel. I still train my butt off because I enjoy it, but I'm seeing less and less reason to participate in events that cater primarily to charity runners. Many of the road races in my area have gotten rid of or reduced prize money over the last 10 years as well, even as the local talent pool has dramatically improved. The trail races in my area are even more expensive than a lot of the road races ($50-60 for 8-12 km races), which is ridiculous seeing as how their costs to run these races are much lower than road events. |

I just paid $26.62 for a local 5K - missed the early reg fee of $21.62. Oh well, I like racing and I'm willing to pay it. A lot of races I do are free or $5 (local club races). |

Don't forget the $3 or so that Active.com tacks on for online registration. Some races only offer online registration now. I really wish more races would offer a discount of $5 if I don't want the shirt. I've been racing for 25 years - I really don't need another t-shirt, especially for a 5k. Why do you need a commemorative shirt for something that lasts between 15 and 30 minutes? |
