I for one, find him inspiring. I have a hard time figuring out why there is such dislike and even hatred of him on this board. I am not going to argue any points in this, but welcome people to forward their reasons why they don't like him, and back it with substance...you just can't say...I hate him because his charity isn't really a charity, or he doesn't give any money to cancer, Livestrong is about cancer awareness. I would like to see a source verifying this information is true. It doesn't have to be about business even. Maybe you dislike him because of how he can't stay with one woman. lets hear them. |

I think he does a lot of great work for charity and he's horrificly driven and motivated. However, I don't care for him from an ethical perspective because of his cheating. |

Doping, that's why. |

I used to like him and motivated me when I read his book, "It's Not About the Bike." However, when I started to learn about the sport of cycling and how it's impossible that he's clean after understanding the sport, I started to lose little respect, but understood that many dope so didn't think it was a big deal since he's beating the doped athletes. It's like him being Ronnie Coleman where he's doping, but at least he's beating the best of dopers. But, the way he attacks his accusers made me lose more respect for him. However what became a full on hate is how his fans blindly defend his innocence that made me hate him. He's like a cult leader where he's got bunch of idiots adoring him even though he's lying to their face. That image made me lose all respect for him. |
| Here's a few |
| ||
|
1. He is widely considered to be a jerk in his personal life. 2. Credible (but unproven) charges of doping. 3. Aggressive attacks on his critics. 4. What are viewed as insincere attempts to insulate himself from criticism through his cancer charity. 5. Former popular hero shown to have feet of clay. 6. General LRC attitude toward the cyclist and tri subcultures. |

Anybody on the planet can run-and with talent, can run well. To be even a moderate local success in bike racing, one needs thousands of dollars worth of bicycle. It makes alpine ski racing seem inexpensive. To be a worldwide success, one needs thousands of dollars worth of bicycle, talent, and perfomance enhancing drugs. He is (or was a couple years ago) at the pinnacle of this ridiculously silly rich kid sport, and as the king, represents all that is wrong with bike racing. |

He's a disingenuous fraud who is a jerk in real life. He relentlessly attacks his critics who point out his obvious flaws. He bemoans every doped athlete in the face very credible evidence that he cheated. He's no different than Marion Jones or any other athlete who cried and complained that they were being persecuted, that they were clean, that the tests were wrong. He's the cycling version of Barry Bonds - obvious he cheated, clings out to dear life to the "never caught positive" excuse because that's all he has. Meanwhile, everyone dislikes him because he's an arrogant dickbag jerk. |

Provide proof please. Sources that point that this is in fact true, not speculation.[/quote] You asked why people hate him. dfs... believes he is cheat, that is why he does not care for him. I thought you were not going to argue? |
| ughhhhhh |

Asking for proof isn't arguing. I still haven't seen any proof...proof about what people say about his charity, doping anything really. When you don't know him and base opinions on heresay its a problem. |

I would guess that almost all of people on LR that drove to work this morning in a car probably broke the speed limit. If I ask them if they broke the speed limit and they tell me "no," I can be sure they are lying right to my face. |

How much did he make off his ball cancer? He made millions giving false hope while doping it up and probably eating Crow's crotch or that Matthew actor guy's bicycle pump. |

I heard that Lance's nickname is "Deena". Just like Rod Stewart gave Elton John the nickname "Sharon" Elton responded by calling Stewart "Phyllis". |

Who doesn't sound awesome in a memoir? That's the point isn't it. I think a true test of whether or not he's that great would be to meet him in person. He does have a strong point about the resilience of human spirit. I find him somewhat humanistic in this stand point. Does God not heal people anymore? Or is it just us weekend warrior? Real athletes have the power of the human spirit to bring them back from life threatening cancer? He touts his own strength, will, etc. that pulled him through. Really? Is that how it works? |

Show me proof that Marion Jones tested positive......oh wait....guess that means she is clean! idiot |

I read an article in the mainstream newsreporting media about his charity not giving much, if any, money to cancer research. It was a couple months ago, OP, why don't you either pay attention or do your own research? I have read a number of articles throughout the years about the numerous allegations from inside sources. There are dozens of them. However, when the sport is dominated by one person, who is creating a buzz and bringing in more and more money, then others are less likely to openly criticize him. His largesse allows him the luxury to impugn any possible affront, which he does without hesitation. He has a monopoly of power, which he uses forcefully, in a sport that should be about open competition. Just as he broke the mold in training 24-7, he breaks the mold in stifling all possible differences of opinion about him. I think this cements his legacy as an egomaniac. And I have no ill feelings for the guy. |
