So I have spent the last week doing slow runs and did my first "tempo" run today. Ran 3 miles in 21 min on treadmill in gym. Felt pretty relaxed but started to get mildly tough at end. My friend recommended 3 "tempo" (170hr) runs a week and then 3 easier long runs a week for a month to get into shape. Just for some background I retired from track a year ago - basically got out of shape over last 6 months and just started running again in an effort to get in shape for a mile race I have in sept against a friend. I ran 10.7 and 21.5 short sprints. |

Oh during the run the treadmill kept saying my heart rate was 163 but I took a pulse for 15 seconds directly after and got 188. So splitting the difference close to target. I suspect the tread is off by more then me though. So probably slightly out of range but I think 7min miles is a good pace to hit that zone from now on. And maybe 6- 6:30 miles for like 12-15min tempos. |
