I get that the 1500 is crazy stacked and a little unpredictable, but this is going to make the 5k even more unpredictable. A lot of our top 1500 guys appear to be moving up or contemplating it as a back up plan. Let's see, we have: Lomong 3:32/13:11 Torrence 3:34?/13:16 Webb 3:38/13:49 Will Leer 3:35/13:36 Non US contingent Willis 3:31/13:29 Did I miss anyone? |

It's too bad they can't actually use the 5k as back-up if they don't make the team in the 1500. |

http://tracktown12.gotracktownusa.com/olympic-trials-schedule/ Just looked at the schedule. 5K prelim is 6/25 6/28 has the 1500 prelim at 4:50and the 5K final at 7:38 People serious about the 5,000 would not want to run a 1500 a couple hours before their final. But Webb ... |

To me it looks like you can chase the 1500 team and then double back for a tactical 5k if you screw up. I'm sure Webb being able to run a 3:38 and 13:49 in the span of 45 minutes would indicate he could possibly attempt it. |

I doubt Leer, Webb, and Torrence would even attempt that. Especially Webb. |

6/25: Men's 5k prelim 6/28: Men's 1500 prelim (2:45 rest in between), Men's 5k final 7/1: Men's 1500 final It's not doable unless you're Lagat circa 2008 |

Why would they put races for adjacent distances on the same day? Seems like they would separate all those out. |
