Hasay dejected, realizes she's not making Olympic team this year. 4/30/2012 8:22AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
After Sunday's race in Stanford a dejected Hasay told KSBY her main focus for the rest of the season will now be the NCAA season. After talking with her coach she said she has a long ways to go before she can compete with the top runners in the world. Hasay was second among college runners in Sunday's race, finishing 25 seconds behind Jessica Tebo of the University of Colorado.

Can she jump a barrier? Seems like she has nothing left after 3,000, and not enough footspeed for a 1500.. Tweener :(

I think she can do it. But even if she doesn't she's still an amazing runner.

Yeah, but what about her leg speed velocity?

She has a good 40-45 seconds for hurdles/water barrier on top of her 3000 PR for the A Standard. Think she is too short and not very graceful for the Steeplechase though. Her career is over.

She needs to rock some compression socks IMO.

Y'know, she probably *could* be a hell of a steeplechaser. She's certainly a very talented distance runner; she's of average height (nothing more than that is required); she has a background in gymnastics, IIRC, and certainly gives the impression of being a real *athlete* instead of a skinny-Minnie.

OTOH for the last five years I've been saying that Webb should be in the steeple (for many of the same reasons)--or even triathlon; hasn't happened yet. Too bad, for both.

Clearly you nothing about running biomechanics. It's all about the high leg rate of speed.

The reality is, she is too nice of a person to take the Magical Duck Sauce. Probably the fastest clean runner in the USA righ tnow.

Why is a 15:37 5000m runner getting so much attention?

no it is not, no one really thought she would make the olympic team this year, she has 2016, 2020 and 2024 to try for olympic wise and even without the olympics she will have many good moments in running in her future.
Should have been obvious

I am a female and hate when talks turn to weight, but to me it seems Hasay's performances have declined (or at least failed to progress) in relation to her body weight. Last year (2010) after cross she began to look ultra-lean, and even though she won two indoor titles her times were not that impressive.

In high school she was shorter but not as thin. Perhaps she would benefit by racing at a slightly heavier weight.

Just a thought. I am a HUGE fan and want to see her succeed...
Do you not get it?

One of the major problems with her performance is the "College" system.
You can't race XC-indoor-Outdoor-summer and expect to continually do well against pro runners.
You certainly don't see pro runners racing like her, do you?
Just a thought.
what do i know??

I think she is being slightly overtrained and is a constant state of exhaustion.

In high school she ran 50 miles or less a week and Coach Mando made sure she was fresh, recovered, and being careful and not overdoing it.

Now she's running in the 80s for mileage and seems to be doing 3 workouts a week! I'm a HUGE fan and think she would benefit from reducing the mileage by 10-15 and cutting back on some of the hard training sessions.

Just my opinion, but I think it would restore some speed and make her sharper and fresher in races.

And why isn't Jessica Tebo getting any attention? I think 15:19 would be a collegiate leader ahead of D'Agostino, Van Dalen, and Reid?

Or just not racing for an extended period. Sometimes being a good team member in the college system makes it harder to excel individually.

She's just a junior hitting a plateau. Happens to the best of 'em. She'll likely have a great senior year, will be due for some big PRs and perhaps the World Championships in '13.

Reid only runs around 50 miles a week, so you may have a point.
