Hello everyone, Before I kick off the thread, I would like to solicit volunteers to take over this role. OMBTS did a great job for such a long time, and I did my best to fill his shoes, but I have a little too busy of a summer to commit to starting the thread every week. It's not that hard - click start a new thread, and pull down the right categories in the dropdown menu before posting. Thanks! The highlight of my week was running in the Corporate DMR at the Penn Relays on Friday. I saw several familar faces from the masters track circuit. My Corning team was about 10 seconds away from the medals, but it was such a fun event. Chaotic definitely, with 32 teams on the track, with paces ranging from 4:30 to 6:30. That mean runners were getting lapped in the exchange zone and it was difficult to determine if the ones you were passing were on the same lap. My 800 split was around 2:12, and I think I moved our team from 10th to 6th, so I did my part. We would have medaled every other year, so no need to hang our heads. We hope to be back next year! |

Greetings old friends. Great to be a runner here in Oregon. Kicked it off with a wonderful event celebrating the life of my friend Geoff Hollister. Followed by second son's PR in the 800 in 2:02. Another PR by daughter in the youth 1500 in 6:28. Another PR by eldest son in the 5000 in 15:42. PR in the 800 in 2;12 by one of the high school sophomore girls I help coach. Topped off by my BAC teammate Mike Blackmores new AR in M50 5000 in 15:16. I am inspired to stay on course of patient strength work so I too can toe the line. KP |

Great athletic family KP. You must of been smiling all weekend! WOW on Mike's 5k (15:16) at 50!! Oregon runners are-a-rock'n. I have been dealing with this persistant calf strain which will not let push off in a running motion - so another week of elliptical and bike. A bummer, but again my wts and core are improving from hanging out in the gym so much. Realizing that Health is EVERYTHING as we age. Well off to the ......gym. Cheers tony |

unless someone else prefers to do it, I'm happy to start the thread. I tend to get up early and can just make it a point to post before running. great job at Penn Relays. that sounds fun. I had a good week of running, incl. 12 with 2 miles at marathon pace Thursday and 5 X 600 (200 jog) at aspirational 5k pace today (average = 1:59). Worked this morning as a course marshal for a fast road 10k (pike's peek, rockville MD) and saw lots of my friends run great. Thankfully I had a police officer with me at my intersection. He took the brunt of the screaming from drivers we had to prevent from turning onto race course as the runners went by. He showed impressive restraint -- I don't think in my adult life I've had anybody go off on me as badly as the angriest driver this morning. I guess even sunday morning traffic sends some people into fight-or-flight mode. have a great week, Dave |

Good weather = good training. Really ripped it this morning and I felt great. PA Champs on May 27...who will be in San Mateo?? Train well, run happy! |

Only about 42 miles this week. An achilles that's been a little sore for over a month got worse this week. Seems I can't even back off training and not get hurt, this time with something I've never had problems with before. This running thing seems to suck. Congrats to your kids, KP. |

Greetings from the wettest April in decades in the UK! I am ashamed to admit that I hit the treadmills a couple of times... My wife and I resolved to diet together a week ago to get in shape for summer - dropped 3lb this week, same amount to go until racing weight. Hope we can stick with it. Solid week's training: - 70 miles (first time in about 6 weeks) - Mon: 2mi tempo + 8x200 - Tue: deep, seriously painful massage, my fault for leaving it months too long. Booked up two more a fortnight apart - Thu: 8x700m @ 5k pace (actually 800m on treadmill but it took 100m to switch speeds) - Sun: easy 14 Very jealous of those DMRs. We could do with more of those over here... |

dhaaga - it's yours! Let me know if you need a breather, as I do for a while now (not that it's a huge burden. Skipped the 1500m at Cornell today - temperature was below the threshold for a non-important race. |

nyloco, thanks for starting the thread for so long and Dave appreciate you stepping up. In terms of running there was none here. Sick with the flu and spent most of the week in bed. |

Still running steady. I hit 70 miles a week ago, but ran a little bit less this week. I had a rough time with sleep this week and so felt really tired. I did a tempo type run earlier in the week partly because I didn't have to think too much to do it. I am booked to run a race next week - my first in nearly 6 months - and wandered over to the track (a place I haven't run for over a year) to see if my estimated race pace was anywhere near accurate. Afterwards, I still don't know as what I ran was faster than my planned pace, but I was amazingly consistent for all of them, so I guess that's a good thing. It's just a fun run type race for me, so I'm trying not to stress too much. Nice weather for my runs this weekend and I really appreciate the sun staying up later as it gives me a chance to run on trails even if I start after 6:30 pm. Yay Spring! (now if the grass would only mow itself). |

nyloco, thanks for starting the thread for many weeks. I had a scare this week - during a 5 mile tempo in cold wet conditions, I felt a twinge in my right calf. I stupidly finished the workout, but did take the next day off. I ran a nice 13 mile steady state run two days later and it seems 100%, so I think I got away with one. Why is it so hard to stop a workout? Afterward it seems like such an easy decision. Next race is a summer biathlon in two weeks, then in mid May the heart of my season begins - Brooklyn Half, 5k on the track, and the Shelter Island 10k. David |

Reno, try stretching and rolling the calves. That finally worked for my achilles problems. My calves were perpetually tight and since the tendon connects the heel bone to the calf muscles, the contracting calf muscles pulled on the tendon. The tendon became inflammed from the constant tension. Maybe a deep sports massage would help with your aches and pains. |

Late to the party. Thanks to Nyloco for his work and Dhagga for taking over. Wow, a sub 15:20 at 50. A couple of my teammates ran well in 5ks with the collegiates in AL. Valentin Alvarez ran 15:38 and Kristian Blaich ran 15:14 as a 45 year old, his overall PR. Nice! As for me I muddled thru 50 miles with aches, pains and too much work. did go 14 for my long run and did a 4 x 5:00 workout that was solid. Also ran 16 x 200 w/200 recovery. Started in 37, ended in 31 and averaged 35. Will try to make my outdoor debut May 8th in a 3k. |
