I'm a High School senior from California, and since deadlines are coming up soon, I'm obviously thinking about college. I got accepted into CSULB, Fullerton, Pomona, and Santa Cruz, but I want to go to University of Washington. I have roughly a 3.4 weighted GPA, 1720 on the SAT (horrible I know, I never studied for it), with 3 AP's under my belt (all passed, World, US, and English, 4/5/4, respectively) and I'm taking 5 this year (Calculus AB, Bio, Euro, Gov, and Econ)If I get straight A's/1 B in CC, will that be sufficient enough to transfer out of state, or will I have to be there for two years? Based on what I've been told by my friend's currently attending UC's, English, US, Gov, and Econ help me bypass quite a few GE's. Thanks for the help in advance. |

3.4 is great at California Community College. I thought 4 year colleges ignore SATs though since SAT & HS are viewed at teach-to-the-test ? After 4 years in the military and a a 3.5 GPA from a California Community college I transferred to Berekely with a 3.5. I had straight As in engineering core, B avg in GE. I finished up at Cal with a BSEE in 5 semesters before my time was up. |

It's my HS GPA, and I'm also highly considering Berkeley, but I'm hoping to be a Computer Science or Economics major. I'm talking about cumulative CC GPA, as in what would I need to meet the minimum amount of time spent at a CC? Like what would I need to only be there for a year and transfer out? |

Cal requires that you complete the UC-IGETC and have it certified before transferring, No partial IGETCs. That normally takes 2 years. I barely finished the IGETC in the summer before the Fall Semester at Cal. Most CC transfers have at least a 3.7 CC GPA. I think I got in since I am ex-mil and went to an inner-city HS w a terrible reputation. |

I don't know how many credits I would bypass, but I have English (4), US history (5) and Government and Econ (assuming I'm going to pass, expecting a 4/4 on both). These are the classes I'm sure I will get AP credit for, so wouldn't that give me quite a head start? I also have yet to take Environmental (won't help) and European History (may help). I go to a HS ranked top 40 in California. |

consider - if you are a really smart guy who shrugged off SAT - going to Jr College first yr and re-take SAT - unless you can retake before impending deadlines. I think Pomona is rated pretty highly. If your'e a serious runner you can play with the eligibility stuff. |

Yes, but I really don't want to go there. I really don't like the area surrounding the campus, it's rural af. I'm "serious" I suppose, but I always start season late due to non-running related injuries. I ran 2:01 and 51.85 this season off of 2 1/2 weeks of training before severely bruising my shins on a hike, and I've run 17:10 for 5K off of about a week of training in the summer (this just due to laziness). I wouldn't want to boast, but I do consider myself to be quite smart, since I passed all my AP's without studying and I skipped the 4th grade. |

If you got to cc then you need to plan on being there for two years since if you don't get into Washington you're most likely looking at a UC. Like it's been said, UCs will only take completed IGETC which takes two years to get the required courses and units. Even with your AP credits, if they count toward that, it doesn't really help you to get it done in 1.5 years. Unless you want to spend two years living at home pick one of the other schools and go there. If you don't like Pomona or the other so cal options you have, go to Santa Cruz. Good city, good programs in what you're interested in and you could probably compete there since they have a men's DIII team now. |

I'll be more than happy if I go to a UC like Berkeley, SB, or LA. Even if I go to one of the CSU's, I'm still gonna be living at home since I live within 5 miles of Fullerton and 20 miles of Long Beach. I don't wanna go to SC and Pomona. How will my AP credits not count? My friend had the same AP's and is going to UCLA, and he's already a standing sophomore. Surely whatever's valid at a UC will be valid at a lower college, like community. I don't care so much about competing, I'll think about that after I plan my academics out. |
