recovery from 100 miler on trails? 4/28/2012 5:17AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Is it possible to run a good marathon 10 weeks after a hundred? I have heard that a full recovery to fast running can take a very long time -- if it ever happens.
yea....

I ran a 3:02 marathon 6 days after running a trail 100. 3:02 is pretty slow but I was content. I was seriously hurting out there though.

What are your 100 and marathon goals and capability?

I also ran a 3:02 4 weeks after a 100, not fast but decent for me, felt fine.
The previous 100 and recovery didn't hurt -- it just didn't help because of less time to do marathon-specific workout.
If I would have run the marathon instead of the 100 (on the same training), I'm guessing my time would have been 0-5 minutes faster.

10 weeks is even better: 1-2 weeks recovery, 2 weeks ramp back to base mileage, 4 weeks quality, 2 week taper. Have fun!

I don't really have a goal for the 100 except to finish; this would be my debut. Sub 20 would be nice though.

Marathon: say 2:56 = 2 hours plus my age. I consistently run 2:55-58 (unless it is hot, like a certain marathon recently . . .) and would like to stay sub3 as long as possible.

Sure. It doesn't take that long to recover.

Just move conservatively right into your marathon training.
