The big east is a pretty large conference with a variety of schools. Overall, very strong academically and athletically. Just curious how people would rank these schools? I'd say Notre Dame is definitely first. Fantastic tradition and top notch academics. If you had to rank the Big East schools and possibly separate them into tiers, what would you say? |

For which major? |
| ummmmm.mmmmm |

If we're going academics I'd kind of have to go with Georgetown over Notre Dame... |

No specific major. I guess overall strength? Which schools are particularly strong in certain areas? GT is a fair argument. Definitely ND and GT at the top tier of the Big East. Plus great running on both teams |

Georgetown, Pitt, and Rutgers are known for having a few good grad programs. The others are all university of bumF nowhere as far as academics are concerned. On a scale of 1-5, with 1's being Ivy leagues and 5's being online 4 year schools, those schools are 3s and 4s |

Pretty dumb list. No Liberal Arts colleges? I also have a hard time believing U of Hawaii, Iowa, Delaware, and Oregon State are all "better" schools than University of Virginia. |

Oh, and you have Lehigh between Montana State and Kent State. Riiiiight. |

Interesting that in the Big East, only Pitt & Rutgers have enough citations to earn a world rating. |

I'd say Marquette and Depaul are underrated and very fine jesuit universities with solid academics |

They are not......by any means. UVa is one of the stongest public universities in the country and certainly on the East Coast. Their graduate business school is renowned for being the toughest among the elite graduate business schools. |

DePaul (the country's largest Catholic university) is not Jesuit--it's the Vincentians. |

DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Virgina, etc. are unranked on http://www.shanghairanking.com/ARWU2011.html. |

This is pretty close. It's more like: Tier 1: ND, Georgetown Tier 2: Pitt, Syracuse, Marquette Tier 3: Rutgers, UConn, Villanova Tier 4: St. Johns, DePaul, Seton Hall Tier 5: Cincinnati, Providence, Louisville Tier 6: West Virginia, South Florida Start at the top with a 3.9/1400. Each tier down, drop .2 and 75 SAT points on the old scale. |

From the U.S. News Rankings: #19: Notre Dame #22: Georgetown #58: UConn #58: Pitt #62: Syracuse #68: Rutgers #82: Marquette #132: Depaul ---- And the others.... I know Villanova isn't listed among the Universities, but rather is the #1 college in the Regional University North rankings, whatever that means. |
