| Knee Pain Man |

Hey Letsrun, So I'm just getting back into semi-serious running after 8 years of just occasionally running. Was decent high school runner (16:45, 4:35, 1:58) Halfway through today's run (6 miler) I stopped to get some water from a fountain and stretched for less than a minute. I had felt good and smooth on the way out. About 100meters after starting back I noticed a slight pain in my right knee below my kneecap, this grew slowly over the next 100 meters till it abruptly seemed almost to cramp up and forced me to stop suddenly. I stretched a bit to loosen it up and walked some and tried to start up again only to have the same thing happen, no pain for about 50meters this time then a somewhat quicker building pain with a sudden stop. Tried a few other times with same result. I was able to walk/old man shuffle (straight legged flat footed barley lifting feet off ground)without any pain at all but anytime I tried to actually run it would happen. There appears to be no significant swelling and there is no pain in bending, only after I run a few steps do I feel it. Anyone ever experience anything like this? Thanks |

Google infrapatellar bursitis or patellar tendonitis/tendonosis and see if this matches what you are experiencing. |

Depends on what you mean by "below"-- below as in further down your leg (patellar tendon) or below as in actually behind/underneath your kneecap? Depending on which, it could be patellar tendonitis or patellofemoral pain syndrome. |

It sounds like patellar tendinitis. Do you have any swelling just below your knee and above your shin? Stop running completely for about two to three weeks and get some anti inflammatory medicine prescribed. You will recover. I tried to get back in too soon and reaggravated it. |
