I live in a redneck county in Virginia. It's more likely that I represent the department of motor vehicles or NASCAR or something related to that. |

This phase mainly refers to the DC metro area (DC, Maryland, and NOVA). They are all close in proximity and culturally similar. That is why people say they are "reppin the DMV". |

Would Charlottesville or CVille be considered part of the DMV? |
| NoVA |

No, Charlottesville is too far south. The region is generally considered to include Faifax county, Loudoun County, and Prince-William County. |

its a phrase that means anytime you get on an interstate, you are stuck sitting in traffic for 60 minutes |

I would say that they are geographically similar. In terms of culture, you cannot get any more different than Anacostia and Arlington. Interesting how you leave out PG County in the DMV but include Loudoun County... Anyway, I find the phrase ‘the DMV’ to be annoying and do not use it. |

Yeah, I always referred to the Department of Motor Vehicles when I said DMV. This must be a new thing and I do not like it. The kids who came up with it must not be very familiar with the DMV. I don't think people are very inclined to create acronyms that conflict with acronyms they already use. |

It's all about the 202, 301 and 703 (240 and 571 included) If you are in the 410 or 540 it's not DMV even though it is. Maryland doesn't even have a DMV. They have the MVA - Motor Vehicle Administration. Maybe MVA could be Maryland Virginia Atlantic and be all about the Eastern Shore. |

I just went to the DMV in DC this past weekend to get my new license and register my vehicle. Let me tell you something. I will NEVER say that I 'rep the DMV' after spending damn near half my Saturday at that horrible place (all so I could pay them $400...?). |

Huh? I've lived in the DC area essentially my whole life, and I have NEVER heard this expression. |

Think that's bad? You should come down to Richmond. As a Virginian, this is a first for me. I've never heard of the phrase, "DMV". Probably because I stay the hell away from NOVA aka Cesspool. |

I was thinking the same thing. WTF is the OP talking about? |

The term DMV for DC, MD and VA but basically the DC metro area is pretty new. I think it it started with the black radio stations like WPGC and WKYS. The DMV is their broadcasting area and they wanted all of their listeners to feel at home with their station. I don't think DC101 or WJFK or any of the lite or mix stations use the term but it is catching on. If you are old and white you probably haven't heard of the area being referred to as the DMV. http://kysdc.com/2707057/the-kys-list-the-dmvs-hottest-rappers-2011-9-10/ Here is a link to a KYS promo |

Cesspool? Lol, have you even visited the NOVA area? Not exactly one of the trashiest places out there..... |

I've been going to NOVA my whole life. I cannot stand the constant traffic jam everywhere I go. It's one huge sprawling so-called "suburbs" with no real city in the middle. Sure, you have Alexandria, Arlington and Crystal City but they all equally suck. I hate NOVA with a passion. |

I visited DC and it's a complete dump. I can't believe anyone would want to "rep" that area. Yuck. |
