Running shoes - over-pronate right, neutral left foot 4/23/2012 3:59PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I recently had gait analysis and was told I am slightly over-pronating on the right side and that I am fairly neutral on the left side. I was using Supernova Glide which I was told are not providing adequate support.

They recommended increasing the amount of support in my shoes to a minimum support shoe for injury prevention and to ensure a more efficient gait.

I tried Asics Gel trainer 16 and Nike Lunarglide 3 but both shoes hurt at the left midfoot area. I think it may be the added support.

I am trying a minimal running shoe - Saucony Progrid Mirage but it still hurts a bit like the others though not as bad. If I break these shoes in will the pain in the midfoot subside?

Are there any other options like going back to neutral shoes and gettin an orthotic for the right foot.

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks in advance
Big Kenny

Quit running on the left side of the road so much.

try the black superfeet in a neutral shoe before spending lots of cash on custom orthotics

I've had a couple of customers similar that ended up with a Superfeet insert in one shoe but not the other. Try a 3/4 dress under the regular sockliner for the right foot. Doing it that way keeps it from feeling so strange.

What was going on that you decided to have a gait analysis? Were you injured? Did you not like the Supernova Glide?

If you weren't injured (or even if you were -- the footwear may not have had anything to do with it), why switch? I love the Mirage, and I wear it occasionally, but it's a much different shoe (obviously) than the Glide. I would actually say that the medial support is the least of the differences.

Running in the neutral shoe caused some lower back and right hip pain on the right side.

That's what I would suggest.

By the sockliner do you mean the running shoe insole?
