Sub 14 is way more than solid for D3...two in one season...has this happened before? |

This thread would be greatly improved by including the names of these two gents. The times they ran, meets they ran in and the names of their respective institutions of higher learning may also have benefitted the reader. |

The first came from Jordan Schilit of Haverford - who ran 13:59.21 at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invite. He got second to Bendston of Princeton - taking the lead in the last lap - he also took down some solid DI runners (Channon from Providence, Tito Medrano, Brian Leung). http://www.haverfordathletics.com/sports/mtrack-out/2011-12/files/Results__Princeton_Ellis_Friday.htm The second was from Tim Nelson at Mt. Sac, he ran 13:57.02 for sixth in his heat. He was also the indoor 5k champ. http://www.tfrrs.org/results/24213_1614501.html video: http://www.flotrack.org/video/630271-M-5k-H04-Open-B Also, this is a good demonstration of how DIII can really develop runners. Schilit's PR last year was 14:52 - and he was a 9:20s 3200 runner in high school. Nelson's progression is ridiculous as well as his PR in 2010 was 15:37 and he gradually progressed to where he is now at 13:57 - switching that 5 and 3... I think these are the 4th and 5th best times ever in DIII. On the whole, the division is a lot stronger than it used to be - especially in the distances. Pretty impressive stuff. |

I'm assuming you're talking about the two-mile here? |
| don’t you know ? |

We aren’t allowed to talk of Division 2 and 3 runners on this board. Only D 1 counts. |

This thread isn't about DI vs. DIII. This thread is about how it's impressive to have two guys under 14 in DIII. If Nelson really only broke 10 once for 3200 in highschool then his progress is outstanding! Who is coaching at UW-Stout these days? |

In the late seventies, the #1 and #2 all time marks (currently) were set in back to back years, first by dale Kramer and then by another guy whose name escapes me at the moment. They may have both broken 14 in the same season. |

So far this year the top 7 Haverford performers at 5k have run: 13:59 14:35 14:36 14:44i 14:49i 14:51 14:52 |
