Now will the final big spring marathon over who is going to be on the team?

Kipsang is a lock in my opinion. And with all the drop outs and bonks the last couple weeks I still think G. Mutai and Moses Mosop will make the team.

i hope so. still would not be surprised to see makau nab a spot as he is the world record holder and may get the nod out of the clusterf$%& that was the kenyan favorites performances over the past week

i am choosing kirui kipsang and emmanuel mutai for london olympics 2012 in london. mosop doesn't deserve a chance with his slow times of 2:05 last week.

i hope mosop doesn't make the team. he talked about beating the world record last week in rotterdam and failed miserably. his pr is 1 second faster than kirui but kirui isn't a liar.

If you look at the results of the six shortlisted Kenyans this year there is no way Mosop is not on the team. Otherwise, the point of having them run this spring would be negated.

Kipsang 02:04:44
Mosop 02:05:02
Kirui 02:07:58
E. Mutai 02:08:01
G. Mutai DNF
Makau DNF

As much as I understand your concern, let's not forget that Kenya has a wild card system (method) of selecting their athletes.

I believe tht with the field in London, the winner had to make the team.
Kisang did it.

Consistency will also be considered and Kirui has shown it time and time again.Mosop could still be the third guy after Kirui but G. Mutai is also a very good racer.

It's tough for the selectors.

now we understand how tough it is to pick or select the Kenyan Marathon team. There will be disappointments and finger pointing, but the bottom line is, it ain't an easy task to do. Its proving to be tougher than running the marathon itself.
still most consistent

if I had to bet on one Kenyan to get a medal that man would be Martin Lel.

Kevin, stop posting under other names. Kirui is at nowhere near Mosop's level, end of story.

Kipsang and Mosop have proven to be the most consistent and they each deserve a spot. For the 3rd spot, I think G Mutai deserves it. It's hard to say no to Makau, but G Mutai was head and shoulders above everyone else in the world last year and I believe Boston this year was just a one-off bad race.

Remember, the kenyan selectors are the guys that left Daniel Komen off the oly team, fueling his wr laden rage. I'm sure it is difficult to pick from such a box of gems.

You cant read too far into Mutai's 2012 Boston. The NYC CR proves he may be one of the best runners we've ever seen. It took an oven of a race to beat him

Good thing the Olympic marathon isn't smack in the middle of August when it might be hot.

Another thing to consider is whose agent and/or sponsor are paying the largest amount to AK. That has always been a major factor.

?????

Only 2 minutes off the WR.

I can see why he would be in the top 10 Kenyans, but not close to top 3.

All G Mutai and Mosop have going for the is the "sorry for ya" factor.

Oh, sorry that course was 5 minutes too fast, with the downhills and the wind, or you would have run the SAME time without the downhills and the wind --- ????? huh

Oh, sorry New York has some piddly little hills, or you would have broken 2 hours --- ????? huh

Sorry for ya azzes!!!!

How about running a WR on a legitimate course, or winning a World Champs gold medal!

But you didn't do that so...

Sorry for ya azzes!!!!

Even if you give a G. Mutai a pass on the fastest marathon ever run due to a tailwind, he destroyed the NYC record. I believe it was something like 3 minutes. Too lazy to google at work.

It's either G. Mutai or Mosop if you ask me. Mutai beat him in Boston last year. This Boston was a fluke.
