Looked smooth until the last 65 meters...Looks like the US might actually have a steepler now.

we had a worldclass steepler in the US in Daniel Lincoln. He went to some type of schooling after university though, he's got to be done with it now, where is he at?!

Huling has run more sub-8:15 steeples in his career than Jager has run races of any kind in the last 12 months. When Jager runs under 8:10, people can talk.

I think people are allowed to talk about a guy who runs 8:26 in his first ever steeple.

Lincoln retired after '07 when he didn't make top-3 in US champs.

Fam should have retired with him.

More athletes need to recognize the steeple as a worthwhile distance event so we don't keep talking about "that one steepler..." Problem is, kids don't even know what it is until college, and most college coaches don't mention the word unless an athlete pusher for it... just ain't right.

not very significant for a 13:20 5k. notable, but not worth drawing significance. Everyone knows Jager is competitive, fast, and talented. He's also fragile. We'll see. I'm not giving credit until it's due.

He tweeted that it was his 1st steeple. The people who are acting like it's not impressive probably have never run that fast for 3000m without barriers.

I'm ready down money that this is the fastest debut by an American Steepler ever. I want to be sure he never ran an 8:50 in a low key meet first.

He just went from someone with almost no chance to make the team to one of the favorites.

THE favorite, it would seem. People forget that he still has to race the other steeplers.

FYI: this is Jager's FIRST EVER steeple. Even so, statistically speaking, he SHOULD be able to run that fast. Doing it on his first attempt simply means he is training hard.

Are you trying to convince us you do not really know much about the steeple. By the way, how many times has Huling run sub 8:15? I suspect your race count is off. And, what was Huling's debut? Many are just not cut out for the steeple; maybe Jager is.

Rather than get an opinion from someone who is simply negative, I would like to see what malmo has to say.

13:20 / 12:37.35 x 7:53.17

= 800 / 757.35 x 473.17 = 8:19.9

When Huling beats Jager I suppose you might have a point. Until that day comes Huling has never been closer than 7 seconds to Jager in a steeplechase.

Another good point, maybe no one looked at the results and saw the Huling was 7 seconds behind Jager in 3rd place.
