OK so two weeks out from my marathon i had to take two days off/ run easy instead of workouts because i took a fall on a run. I finally got back to running on Tuesday (11 days out from saturday marathon) and I did 13 miles with 8 miles at MP (6:06 avg). It was a comfortable effort, and I was thinking I wanted to get one more workout in this friday (8 days before the race). Since I have not gotten any running faster than marathon pace in the past 3 weeks, I was hoping to touch up on either vo2 max pace or lactate threshold pace to maybe sharpen or add some efficiency to my running in the final week. If i had not had to take days off i would have done this workout a couple days earlier. So will i reap the benefits of this workout 8 days later or is this unnecessary exertion? would it just be better to do another workout at marathon pace? i will already be doing a little MP tune up the week of the marathon though. any input would be helpful. i know it depends on the person but i'd like to hear some personal experiences about final workouts before the marathon. |

So, you're going to ask a long question in 8 days? What will it be? |

Dude, the hay is in the barn. No workout 8 days out is going to make a difference from a physiological standpoint. Do another MP Workout. |

I agree with 8===D ball. You won't develop any material fitness from any workout at this point. |

Ok yeah that's what i was thinking. Still i sometimes feel like with hill running or even some up tempo stuff you get some of the adaptations relatively quickly even if you do not get all the adaptations in 8 days. But yeah, maybe ill just do more of the comfortable MP stuff and then just do a good set of strides or something |

You're going to blow up at the marathon anyway, no sense in even running it at this point. Who falls on runs, anyway? How can a fall necessitate 2 days off? Are you Ed Whitlock? |

I fell a couple weeks before Boston on an easy run. Just daydreaming and caught a bad spot on the sidewalk... ...as Forrest Gump would say... ...it happens. |
