So I'm in Edmonton (snowing today) and looking for a long trail run route for tomorrow (120min) and a semi-long on Tuesday (80 min). On the map I see a ton of parks along the river but where's the best place to go for uninterrupted soft trail running this time of year? Thank you! |

My wife says to start at Kinsmen and run along the river, if there's no snow on the ground. She also says that you should ask at the Running Room in Edmonton, they will know where it is good. Finally, she says that you should just become a swimmer, because they don't have to put up with this sort of shiit. |

She says that the paths through the forest are not paved. Also, she says that since it's still cold outside, you don't have to worry about getting raped. Phone the Running Room! |

You can't go wrong with the River Valley trails. Start at Hawrelak park and do some exploring. |

I hate the running room. Always a plus to not have to worry about getting raped - especially since I'm a guy. |

I live in Edmonton; if you go to Whitemud park, there is a ton of great trail running out there, and like someone else said, you can start from Hawrelak Park and go out toward the zoo or toward Emily Murphy. Our river valley has hundreds of kilometres of trails, but a lot of them are paved. |

I forgot to mention: on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. you can come out to a free group run leaving from Fast Trax; we do a 1-mile warm up and then do intervals, usually for at least an hour (longer intervals, obviously) then a cool down. Some of our faster guys are in the 1:17-1:20 range for a half marathon (these are guys in their 40's and 50's) but there are also slower people, so whatever your pace is I'm sure you'd have someone to run with. It's really fun too! |

I started from Whitemud park where the long staircase is...went down and then explored the trails to the left and then to the right. AWESOME. Also broke in my new trail shoes that I bought earlier today - Saucony Xodus 3. Nice snowy and at times muddy trail run, tons of options and very scenic. Edmonton has some pretty awesome running, I'll be back to explore more on Tuesday. Great place for runners to live!! THANK YOU GUYS!!! |

I'm in a base building phase still since coming out of injury so I'm not sure an hour long interval workout is up my alley - even if its slow. Usually on Tuesdays I do 8x100 fast strides during the middle of a 75-80 min run though so I'm on the fence. Would be cool to run with local runners though. Do you guys go to trails or stick to the roads? |
