Jeremy Wariner 46.43 for 400m Today 4/14/2012 6:54PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Just got an email from Bert Richardson the guy who emailed us earlier in the week saying not to right off Jeremy Wariner after we commented on his 45.64 Opener in the Week that Was here: http://www.letsrun.com/2012/week-0410.php

Well Wariner ran at UT today and it was even slower: 46.43. Here is what Bert wrote and the results he sent:

"Before the message boards light up, thought I’d give you a heads up, wind is about 20-25 mph in Austin (see official wind advisory below). He is still a full second ahead of anybody else."

Finals
1 Wariner, Jeremy Adidas 46.43
2 Banda, Lewis Unattached 47.64
3 Hall, Christopher FR UTSA 47.77
4 Goodman, Cedric Unattached 47.85
5 Summers, Quentin Unattached 47.96
6 Dreyer, Dereck SR Texas 48.11
7 Evans, Sheroid FR Texas 48.24
8 Lacroix, Jeffry SO Texas Southern 48.46
9 Boyd, Xavier FR Houston 48.65
10 Collins, Arte' JR Texas Southern 48.65
11 Pailin, James JR UTSA 48.71
12 Holmes, Michael JR Texas Southern 48.84
13 Boyd, Marcus Nike 49.01
14 Wyrick, Darryl JR UTSA 49.11
15 Isles, Carlin Unattached 49.18
16 Christian, Brice FR Houston Baptist 49.63

Wejo here: Doing a quick search to see how much slower the other guys ran I see Lewis Banda ran sub 45 way back in 2004 but his only 400 this year was a month ago in 48.69 so he actually ran better here.

Chris Hall had run 47.82 before today so that was a pr for him. I then skipped to Derrick Dreyer as he's a Texas senior and figured he'd have a lot of results. IT's actually a pr for him.

More results here from the meet.

It's CRAZY windy here in Austin today. Real pity too...overcast and perfect temps.
Awesome

Why the hate on Wariner? Last I checked it is only
April, and very early in the season and he won by well over a second. He still has a better shot to medal and possibly win in London than any american distance runner that is revered on this site.

Well, I guess we'll have to wait for better conditions to be able to tell anything about Wariner.

46.43 is no news.

Warner won by more than a second. He hobby-jogged, at least for him, the race.

I don't know if he can run a sub 45 this year but we'll know soon if this was a fluke or just not his year.

It's all about the pace and that's the entirety of it.

It will be interesting to see who does what in the men's 400m at the UTECH Classic today, especially Dwight Mullings.

Anybody think the fact that he's running low key meets against crappy runners means something?
Nah nah

Well, Wejo.

You cherry-picked two guys to conclude the weather did not slow the runners down.'

What about the other dozen or so?

Are you trying to make a judgement based on facts, or support a presupposition with a biased slice of the facts?

I didn't cherry pick at all. I said I did this quickly.

I did the first 2 people. They didn't run that much off their seasonal times.

In doing them some had results on TFRRS and not all-athletics.com. I knew a college senior from Texas would just be on TFFRS and would be easier to find times for. SO I skipped to him. Later I can try and do the rest. I did 3 people and they all weren't that slow. I included the fact that there was a huge, huge wind. I was trying to figure out how much slower it was from the other people in the race but couldn't determine much.

Okay, I won't "right him off", although I must admit I left him off of my latest projected US Olympics team for this summer.

Quentin went 46.67 indoors this year, and all 4 of his 400's indoors were faster than this 3 sub 47s and one 47.40 which was his season opener in January. He's a former mid 45 guy who's back in shape. That's probably the only good example on there.
