"We are looking closely at the current weather situation which is projected to be quite warm. The B.A.A. is closely monitoring this situation for for race day decisions. If the temperatures reach certain levels, running will put even the most fit athletes at risk for heat injury. We are now making the recommendation that if you are not highly fit or if you have any underlying medical conditions (for example-cardiac disease, pulmonary disease or any of a number of medical problems), you should NOT run this race. Inexperienced marathoners should not run." Is the race day decision they are talking about cancelling? Is that even possible. Analysis, please. |

Maybe an earlier start? |

Cancel? No. But if temps get absurd in the afternoon it could be halted as Chicago chose to do in 2007. |

It's not going to be cancelled. I ran in 2004 when it was just as warm and we started at noon rather than the sissified time of 10 am. If the race wasn't cancelled for the horrific weather in 2007 then they're not canceling it this year. Does anyone run in the summer? It's warmer everyday than it will be on Monday. Grow a pair! |

I love when runners act tough. |

How is this acting tough? People are talking as if an impending disaster will occur on Monday. It's going to be hot. So what? You slow down your pace a little and keep running. Just like you do when it's 90 degrees and humid in the summer. |

Inexperienced marathoners should not run." ______________________________________________________________ Inexperienced marathoners should not be qualified to run Boston. |

Oh yeah. My mistake. |

Elaborate. |

What should I elaborate for you. |

They are being smart and covering their asses, but there is no way they cancel. |

Your assertion. Put it into context. Thank you. |

http://www.boston.com/sports/marathon/blog/2012/04/baa_to_allow_runners_to_defer.html Now you can defer. However, you do not get a refund for your race fee, and still have to pay again next year. |

there are charity runners in boston. |

Let's not forget that the race is a charity event, plus in order for the race to survive, a lot of palms get greased in every town between Hopkinton and Boston. The unqualified masses help fatten the race budget. Poor b@stards are going to be starting in the last wave and running in conditions that will be worse than what all these whiners on this board will be running in. |

holy cow - with a few thousand deferments and the usual stampede, a boston # will be a tough ticket next year. |

Boston has qualifying standards. If you met the standard that means you have run a previous marathon. You also had to train in an earlier marathon to produce the needed time. My assertion is there are a lot of people running this race who should not be in it. I was always disappointed in the number of people I talked to before the race who did not qualify. |

They will cancel the race. They don't want a chicago 07 and this will be much hotter. |

From wikipedia - "The race was partially shut down early (after three and a half hours) as temperatures rose to an unseasonably hot 88 degrees, which surpassed both the temperature records for the Chicago Marathon and official Chicago records for October 7. Over 10,000 registrants chose not to run in the record temperatures, while 10,934 people did not finish (many were called after the course closed early for safety). One runner died, over 30 were hospitalized, and over 400 others sought medical attention. Marathon owner and sponsor Bank of America, which had just acquired LaSalle Bank, has denied culpability." Everyone signs a waiver, so how could the B.A.A. have any legal liability? In terms of PR, they have given people a way out. I went to the expo today to get my number. A lot of people should take that exemption, that's all I'm saying. |

Each year the BAA issues at least 20% of all race bibs to those who don't qualify: charities, sponsors, communities, et al. Can you tell me why that policy should disappoint you? |
