when you say you've read something in the new yorker, does that imply snobbishness?

I don't think it does.

Definitely snob material. And you started a post about yourself to clinch it.

Don't worry. Once this person realizes that you don't know how to use apostrophes, he or she will no longer consider you to be a snob.

Not if it happened to be the only magazine in the tattoo parlor's waiting room.

I've found that perceived pretension is usually directly proportional to perceiver's own insecurity.

New Yorker circulation is around 1,050,000 - assuming most of those people at least occasionally actually read something in it, it doesn't seem like it's that exclusive a club.

Snob territory comes in when you start name dropping that a friend or relative has recently written a piece for the New Yorker.

Ignorance is not bliss, though many ignorant people seem happy. "The New Yorker" is one of the few magazines left with any appreciable level of journalistic standards and it's possible to read it without feeling shame and idiocy.

Hey, I found the snob ^

And the writting is better in the New Yorker. Plus nobody is as good as Hendrik Hertzberg.

I guess that you can include me in the snob category also.
