Hello LRC Doctors (and trolls) - I am a fairly competitive runner and usually put in around 90-110 miles/week. Last year I ran a marathon PR in June, but felt increasingly bad through the rest of the year. By December I could not manage more than 80 miles/week without feeling awful. I took some time off (most of which I was sick for), but after a long run in February I suddenly developed a bad case of tinnitus and lost a lot of hearing in one ear. I saw a doctor who was totally hopeless, but a friend of mine (who is probably reading this now - so hello to him) suggested that I should look at my ferritin count. That came back at 28 (after eating red meat and eggs (not together!) virtually every day for a couple of weeks). My doctor still told me nothing constructive so I am curious whether anyone on here has any experience with this? I have been taking ferrous sulphate elixir the last few weeks now, and my running seems to be improving. My ear, however, is not really much better (maybe a little). Thank you in advance. |

I had a tinnitus episode for about 10 days. Saw a ear specialist after day 5 and he was pretty useless. He performed an auditory test but offered no explanation or any clear prognosis. Two days later I went to see my chiropractor for a back adjustment. Mentioned I was having muscle tightness at the base of my neck, top of left shoulder. Turned out it wasn't be a random coincidence. The muscle tension was compressing nerves that feed the ear. My ringing and diffused hearing resolved within a few days after the chiro visit. Thank God. |

Find some lipoflavenoids. Your tinnitus is probably unrelated to your low iron levels. |

Thank you both for your information - Hopkinton, yours sounds closer to (what I perceive as) my problem. In the past I had something similar and a chiropractor fixed it temporarily. I have not had any luck with chiropractic this time around though. I will maybe try a new chiropractor. I'll also give the libofavanoids a shot. Are they something that can get depleted from mileage/sweating or is that something completely unrelated? |
