That is pretty ridiculous.

But hey, I'm all for gender "eqaulity" in sports. Girls would quickly learn that for the most part, they are not equal.

Taking it up a notch, imagine any Professional level athletics mixing the sexes. Are there any sports where women would even get to play? How badly would the best WNBA team get schooled by the worst NBA team? Or imagine a varsity highschool XC meet that was coed, it would so clearly demonstrate the inherent differences in the sexes that it seems like it would negate the idea of trying to promote gender equality.

Girls are different than boys, that's just a natural fact, and there is nothing wrong with it.

Weird stuff.

I think that everyone should be encouraged to follow their own interests. No need to tell either gender that they can't do this or they must do that. But to pretend that genders do not exist is just silly.

The thing I love about this board is how people bait and bait and bait...(they really master baiting)

The notion of what is a guy thing or a girl thing in North America is so absolutely insane that if you buy into it you might consider a lobotomy because you are clearly not using any critical reasoning skills. I want my children to have limitless possibilities open to them and not feel as though they are constrained to certain activities due to their biology.

Arts, creativity and the colour pink are not limited to those who menstruate. Likewise dirt, guns and questionable hygiene don't require an erection to be appreciated.

Of all the people in the world who should understand the simple critique of gender normative behaviour it should be a group of pre-dominantly male distance runners. We run around in high cut short shorts, have the physique of prepubescent girls and the manliest thing we can do is run till we puke... so if you are vomiting in your mouth because of a simple idea like gender is a performance and it is culturally relative, than I don't need to be a psychoanalysis to say your probably projecting your own gender anxiety out on other people.

Oh no someone saw me painting I better chug a bud, fart and talk about hunting!

Gender neutral showers in high school locker rooms. Sweet! And that would be with female Swedish women. Nice!

Hey if a chick wants to come into the mens locker room, I'm cool with that.

If a chick wants to race me, or play me in football, etc, I'm cool with that.

She just better not Koufax the team if she's good and has her period etc.

Problem is the discussion did not involve chicks. Just hens.

So you're saying that because elite women runners don't run faster than elite males, women's sports aren't worth watching? Then why watch male high school cross country or male NCAA meets when the runners aren't as fast as elite males? Why are people on this board more interested in American runners than no-name East African runners who are faster?

If women's sports aren't your cup of tea, don't watch them and shut up. They do a lot for young women, and there are men who do watch them.
no he didn't

No. That isn't what he said. How is it possible to be able to write without being able to read?

That was more in response to some of the attacks I see on these boards, but my point is that if you were going to have co-ed teams, you would match them up according to performance and not just throw together women and men. There is a lot of variation between humans and it doesn't always fall along gender lines. What's the point of thinking of gender so deterministically when it isn't in a lot of activities?

Its the frustration that small men feel knowing they are not nearly as fast as any elite women runner. A sort of existential crisis of their gender identity.

That's not the point. The point is, we are different, get over it.

"One school even stopped allowing free playtime during the day because "stereotypical gender patterns are born and cemented. In free play there is hierarchy, exclusion, and the seed to bullying."

No, no, children... you must not think! Independent thought is dangerous, and therefore forbidden.

Any individual should be able to be what they want, but there's a reason those "patterns" exist and it's often intrinsic, and since when is trampling on THAT respecting anyone's right?
Not to state something WAY too obvious, but gender differences are reason societies don't die out, ya know?
