So in addition to a basket full of the usual goodies the Easter Bunny left me a copy of Chasing Ghosts. Who knew he was an avid running fan? Anyway, I just finished it and thought it was the best piece of running fiction since Once a Runner...not that I've read much else. Thoughts? |

I really enjoyed the book. It took a little while to get invested in the lead character but once the storyline took off, it grew on me. It's about the underdog middle distance runner (and his cohorts) who apply passion, drive and smarts to will themselves back into the arena. Good sidebars and 'life-lesson' nuances too. Definitely a recommended read for anyone who can appreciate that kind of scenario. |

I'm sorry, but I really couldn't stand this book. I found that the lead character was so unlikable that I couldn't get invested in him or in the story. I felt that the author kept trying to make him sound cool and inspirational and he just ended up sounding like a tool. I also found the writing really, really bad - like laughably so at times. This is coming from someone who loves running and reading and usually loves reading books about running, if that says anything. For what it's worth, I did finally finish the book, but it was mostly just because I don't like leaving books unfinished. I breathed a sigh of relief when I could finally put it down... I loved Once A Runner, but I did read it a long time ago. Maybe if I re-read it, Cassidy would come off as a d-bag as well and the writing would seem terrible, but from my recollection it was much better written and a much more like able cast of characters. |

I disagree with you Chasing ghosts is my favorite running book of all time, even better then once a runner (which I read before Chasing ghosts). I also found Chasing ghosts more realistic then once a runner. Also I found Joey McNeal a very good main character. |

I'd have to agree with the majority here. I thought CG was a highly enjoyable read with great insights into the hardships of chasing a dream. Maybe it wasn't Dickens caliber prose but that's not what I was looking for. |

It was pretty good. I'd rank it below Once a Runner and ATC and about equal with Pain. |

When did the Easter Bunny become a track fan? |

Well he has always loved the field events, especially the triple jump, but he has come around to see how great the running events can be. |
