All this Hilary Rosen/ Ann Romney talk got me thinking, what really is the most important job in the world? My vote is public restroom janitor. If you're 8 miles from home in the middle of a long run or 8 beers deep in the middle of a summer chilli tasting festival, I cannot think of anything more important than a clean seat and a fresh roll. What do you think is the most important job in the world and why? |

That has to be the hands down winner.[/quote] Not really. You could just go to the grocery store to get more food. I'd say President of America. He's got a lot of important stuff on his plate. |

The first things that came to mind, in no particular order: - Farmer: they not only provide us food, they provide us the opportunity to do other things with our lives knowing that we won't starve - Doctor: most people are not able/qualified to objectively treat themselves. We need doctors so that seemingly minor illness/injury (see: diarrhea)doesn't prematurely kill us - Teacher: the general betterment and advancement of society comes through teaching new generations lessons from the past - Police officer: it's nice to not have to worry about getting mugged/murdered. Of course, there are plenty of places in the world where police are corrupt and exacerbate problems rather than solve them A couple of others that aren't the most important, but are probably not given enough respect given how much society needs them: - Artists (of all kinds: musicians, painters, sculpters, actors, writers, comedians, chefs, etc.): These people generally make the world a better and more inspiring place to live. Life would be pretty bland without them - Politicians: An incredibly important job that most people are simply not willing to do. Certain tough decisions must be made. We should all be grateful that people are willing to dedicate their entire lives to public service |
