He is going to Ohio State to coach the men's distance runners. Robert Gary resigned today. No longer listed on the OSU website.

Source? I highly doubt this as the squad at SFU hasn't done anything spectacular under him.

That is true. His biography is on the site but there is no link to it!

i can guarantee you that he was forced out, administration didn't like him one bit and he was ruining the program as far as recruiting (aka there was none). the xc team was going from nearly 20 strong to maybe seven next year, and then would get even lower the following year. he has done a poor job of developing many runners there and i am glad to see him gone

SFU needs a new process on hiring candidates. They only last 2 or 3 years and the students hate them.

Gordon; to vulgar for his own good.

I think that there are a few aspects of the university that have made it hard the past few years to find a person who is a good fit. I'm not so sure that this was a good hire from the start, and as other people pointed out three years ago it seemed like a fallback job for him. Going from Depaul to Clemson, then to the NEC with SFU seemed strange.

However, the university does have many things going for it and there is no doubt in my mind that some qualified and enthusiastic people will apply for the job. It seems as if they wanted to make up for their previous hires by looking for big conference experience, but I'm not sure that was the best decision.

So why did they fire Thomson with a month left in the season/year? Must've been something dramatic for them not to have waited until May.

Three coaches (Scott Catone, Felix Moreno, and Gordon Thomson)have "resigned" in the last 6 years. Rumors are that all of them had no choice. Why would anyone want to go there when they are getting rid of track coaches left and right. Their website even has an ad for their current asst coach's position so I guess she's gone too?
