Will Kenenisa Bekele Set A New Personal Best On Sunday? 4/10/2012 3:58PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I think he will run faster than 27:57 at the Great Ireland 10K on Sunday. This year is KB's last chance at Olympic gold on the track, so he won't be fooling around, even if he's a bit past his prime.

I don't think "last chance" is quite the correct term to use here.

When you word it that way, you make it sound as though he doesn't ALREADY have a slew of Olympic Golds on the Track.

Furthermore, taking Bernard Lagat into consideration, Bekele would, quite honestly, still have a fairly decent shot at another Olympic Gold in 2016

I don't mean to have to educate you, but when you erroneously attempt to correct me, I have little choice but to try to enlighten you.
Last: coming after all others in time or order; final.

So yes, to say this is KB's last chance to win Olympic gold on the track at London is correct usage. You have disagreed with another point in that you think KB could win Olympic gold in 2016. This is a different matter, as only time will tell who is correct, unlike the other matter where you were in the wrong and sadly tried to correct one who was, as usual, impeccable in his use of the language.

Actually, you stated that this is his last chance at winning Olympic Gold which is certantly not true. He will have a CHANCE to make the Ethiopian team, hit the A standard, and win Olympic Gold every Olympic year for the rest of his life.

Thanks for coming out.

By your reckoning, YOU have a chance at Olympic gold, so STFU if you're that stupid.

You are correct, Sir. I do have a chance. Will I win it? Most definitily not. But, I have a chance.

Let me get this straight:

You used the phrase : "This is his last chance..."

Someone called you out on the phrase because usually in the English language when you say "this is his last chance," it implies he has not yet won one, and if he is going to, this is the last chance. This is simply not the best phrase to use in this situation.

You defended your phrase with a technicality saying, your phrase technically means, it is just his final opportunity to win a gold medal.

Someone extended your argument to say, no it is not his final opportunity because if we are going to get technical about the meaning of the word (as you did), he will have an opportunity, a chance, to get on the team and win a gold medal until the day he dies.

You chose to defend your first poorly written statement with a technicality about the definition of the word "chance", so you can't flip flop now saying getting technical about the definition of the word is a bad argument.

Have a swell day
I agree too

This is not his last chance. I believe he is 28 and would not be surprised to see someone like Bekele medal into his thirties. Just look how Lagat has held up over the years. Never underestimate the great Bekele. He has never crossed the finish line of a 10000 meters and not been the champion.

I think this thread may be summed up by the fact that chet is significantly smarter than the rest of you, and so this disparity in intelligence leaves the communication similar to when one tries to reason with a dog, it will only bark nonsense as a response.

yes he left the 10,000 meters at the world championships around the 15 to 16 lap. Nevertheless, to me HE IS THE MAN! and I hope he is able to overcome the odds and get that gold medal in London. I think that he might not be that dominant as the way he used to but HE till has it and when it becomes the time to perform...(at the right place and at the right time) he and only HE can DO IT!

To provide an illustration for you simpletons. Have you ever heard of a Last Chance meet? Well, let's say a runner like German Fernandez has qualified for nationals in a previous year, but in the present year (remember morons, this is a hypothetical) he has not. Fernandez then goes to the Last Chance meet to try to qualify. Well, the fact that he has qualified in previous years doesn't change the fact that the Last Chance meet is still aptly named because it is his last chance to qualify. 2012 is Kenenisa Bekele's last chance to win Olympic gold on the track, because he will NOT be good enough in 2016. At some point Seyta, no matter how many ugly women you've had sex with, right before you become impotent (forget about Viagara) you might have your last chance to bang an ugly woman. The fact that you've banged hundreds of them (and no good looking ones) doesn't alter the fact that your last chance occurred. YOU REALLY ARE STUPID.

Yes, it is Viagra, not Viagara, even if you use it on the Falls of Niagara.
