Multiples of Four Challenge! 4/5/2012 8:02PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Hello LRC visitors!

I was greatly inspired by the 100 Beers/100 Miles threads. Fast and Fats are two of my favorite Letsrun posters. After reading through all of their threads, as well as the previous attempts, my (non-runner) buddy and I decided we wanted to do something similar. Unfortunately we both have (relatively) real jobs in the post college world. Additionally, we lack the toughness and amazingness of Fast and Fats.

Tomorrow at 2:00 PM EST we will begin the Multiples of Four Challenge that I originally saw posted right here on LRC itself. The rules are as follows:

You have 24 hours to complete all of the tasks. Each task must be performed 6, 12, 18, or 24 times. Each numerical value can only be assigned once; hence one task will be performed 6 times, one task 12, one task 18, and one task 24 times. The tasks are to pleasure oneself (to completion), drink a beer, eat a doughnut, and run a mile.

There are two of us taking part in this challenge. I will post a brief bio of each of us, as well as our tentative strategies a little bit later tonight. For now, follow our Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/#!/X4Challenge. I'm posting a few pictures momentarily. If anyone has any questions you'd like to ask throughout the event, ask away!

6 and 18 aren't multiples of 4.

Right you are, Ken! My mistake. Of course, they're all multiples of 6, which is really what the challenge is called. But hey, I already made the thread and the Twitter feed, so let's just go with it...

What I would have to do:

24 miles
18 donuts
12 beers
jerk off 6 times

or possibly swap donuts and miles

Everything looks do-able except for that 6 times.

Here’s a brief background on each of us. The names are, of course, nicknames.

Questar
The non-runner of the duo. Questar stays fit mostly through fast-paced aerobic weight-lifting as well as various other random sorts of exercises. When asked approximately how many times he has gone running in the past years, he estimates exactly none. He is a muscular 6’1”. Questar can outdrink just about anyone in our near social-circle, despite his being a vegetarian.

Ishmael
The runner of the team. Was a mediocre high school runner, did not run in college, yet continues to pursue the sport on the higher end of recreation. At 6’3” and 175 lbs. he is probably ~10-15 pounds (mostly beer weight) over ideal racing weight. Not quite as good at drinking heavily as Questar, but can hold his own in most circles. Has a 7:30 beer mile credit to his name.

I heard whispers of a college team that did this. Legend has it that some women even participated....

I might add a few things in here. First, we certainly don’t think what we’re doing compares in any way to the 100 beers/100 miles challenge. We were merely inspired by those guys. Secondly, in anticipation of the suggestion that a girlfriend would make one of the tasks much easier, we decided that no physical assistance would be allowed on that front. Sorry ladies

Here is a brief email transcript from earlier in the week where Ishmael realizes he has class in the middle of this challenge but decided to go ahead and complete it anyway:

Questar to Ishmael:
Hey man,

So, the more I think about this challenge the shi††ier and shi††ier it sounds. Want to do it Friday? I can leave work at 1:30 and meet you for a nice early start time of 2:00-2:30. My plan is flawless and I think at most this will take me about six hours to complete:

6: J/Os. I can crush this easily.
12: miles. Four 3-mile jogs. Easy peazy lemon squeezy.
18: doughnuts. Will be nasty.
24: beers. Possibly a mistake but I wouldn't want beers to be at any spot other than the highest.

Lemme know.

Ishmael to Questar:
I'm all in, baby. I forgot that I have class this Friday from 6:00 to 9:30 at ____________. That shall only make the challenge more interesting for me, and it might give you some nice alone-time to knock out a few of your 6. I'm thinking we start at 2:00 or 2:30, as you suggested. I really don't want to do any of these things 24 times, but I think I'll end up doing it like this:

6 J/Os: Get 2 in before class on Friday, 2 more Friday night, 2 in the morning on Saturday.
12 Doughnuts: I just can't imagine eating more than this, though it shouldn't be tough. A few before class, a few at night, a few Saturday morning.
18 Beers: I need to pound 4 or 5 pretty quick upon starting the challenge so I'm sober when I go to class. Then get fu˘ked up Friday night, with maybe a few Saturday morning.
24 Miles: This might be tricky. I think I need to get in ~10 miles before class. Then I can bang out another 4-6 after class. That leaves me 8-10 for Saturday morning.

My college bros and I already posted this up a few months ago. For some reason it got taken down. Thanks for starting it up again though, sweet twatter.

Anybody have movie suggestions? We'll be revisiting a lot of our high school and college favorites since this entire challenge is really just taking us back to that time in our lives.

So far we're thinking Super Troopers, Hot Rod, Dirty Work, Ong Bak, Kung Pow.

I think your thread might be where I saw it originally! How many guys did you have start/finish the attempt? Any stories you feel like sharing?

You can do this!

Don't go out too fast. Pace yourself!

I actually believe going out fast might be the only way to accomplish this task, at least the x6 leg.

One other detail from the email transcript I forgot to post. The original email subject from Questar to Ishmael was "Hang out and jerk it with me this weekend?" Does that make this challenge seem gay?
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

In the spirit of letsrun heres a quick prediciton.

Questar jumps out to an early lead on beers and donuts but falls behind on the J/O thinking he can catch up while ishmael is in class. He underestimates the toughness of running 4x3 miles while 'roided to the gills and lifting weights. The first run is tiring but the second gets cut short.

Ishmael J/Os and hammers his run and pounds a few beers and a few donuts. He goes to class feeling pretty good but is basically asleep by the time he finishes. As he walks in the door he sees questar slumped on the floor, the scene of a self-inflicted sex crime. Beer bottles, donuts, and nudie mags are everywhere.

Ishmael wakes up QUestar and they party long into the night. At some point their sexual identities are challenged in the midst of an inebriated circlejerk. Weird. The fall asleep only halfway through the challenge. Upon waking they discover the horrible hangover and shame from the night before and wind up quitting the challenge. They pull an Alan webb: DNF.
