Bolt vs. Bekele 600m projected times. Bolt 1:17, Bekele 1:18 4/5/2012 12:47AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
With his 44" speed in 400m, Bolt would jog first 400 meters in 51". Then, he would coast final 200 meters in 26", deccelerating a little bit (cause for sure he isn't able to accelerate or even mantain his pace)

Bekele 1500 PB is 3:32...so this make a 56" per 400. But his real 400m speed is probably 50". So, he would run hard the first 400m in 52 and then mantain his speed and run last 200m in 26".

Bolt wins narrowly.

Discuss.

What you say for Bekele is fine. What you say for Bolt is SOOOOO much more difficult than you seem to understand.

Well, the initial post has been taken from somewhere else, as I read it recently.

I know that for a sprinter 50" and also 51" is a brutal pace for the first 400m. But If he runs in 48"...he MUST die last 200 meters. Probably a 30" effort.

That makes 1:18 (not enough to win)

Bolt would run a 50 sec 400 first, then run around 28 for a 1:18. Bekele would run a 50 sec 400 as well, then run a 26 for a 1:16.

This is not true. At least when Bekele was in his peak.

no one believes me, but at his peak he had maybe only low-51 speed

51.4 / 1'47.8 -> 3'30.7 , 4'46.1 , 7'20.0 , 12'36.4 , 26'15.3

he confirms the 800 above here :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VBnP09Utso

at 5'34 in :

he says 1'48, but nonsensical 49

how can a guy with gretest endurance in history run only 1'48 if he has 49 speed ???

if he has 49 speed, then doesn't say, 51/53 for 1'44 look more appropriate ?

All of you are wrong, Bolt, like anyone in their right mind, would sit and kick to a perfectly even paced 1:18 win.

I love the way Ventolin takes Bekele's words as gospel for his 800 and yet dismisses completely his statement of running 49. Why is it so hard to believe that the greatest distance runner ever can run 49 seconds for 400m? High school kids can run that. Also, just because he has great 10k endurance doesn't mean he can add that to his speed and automatically run a fast 800. If he concentrated on the 800 he could probably run a lot quicker but the 800 is a very specialist event. Just having a quick 400 and then the endurance of a long distance runner doesn't give him a pass to run 1:44, he'd need to really focus on it which he never has and never will.

eh ???

only an idiot coud believe a "49s" guy with hugest endurance coud only run 1'48

if 1 or more guy here has run <1'48 off 49s speed, then they have better endurance than kennster...

just realised, i can offer a 600 prediction for kennster

51.4 / 1'47.8 ->

1'19.3

Apparently Kenenisa Bekele believes that. So I guess the greatest distance runner in history is an idiot - that certainly puts those of us who have been the object of your scorn here on LRC in pretty good company!

No, Ventolin.
The poster was saying that maybe Bekele was just stating his personal bests. It's possible that Bekele has never run very many 800s all out which is why it's only 1:47. Doesn't mean that is his real best capability.

Make sense? So 1:44 might very well be his "real" 800m time.

no

he has run 3'32, which given that it didn't have great pacing, maya been worth 3'31 - & that wouda been flat-out - remember he lost 2 of his 3 1500s

plenty of guys who have run 3'31 have 1'44pbs

therefore their endurance is as good as kennster's

you believe that ???

( try baala with extreme of 1'43.1pb & 3'28.9 !!! )

I'm not sure if you understood what I wrote. I meant that maybe Bekele was stating his best RECORDED times. Maybe he hasn't even run a full out 800m. I would not be surprised if Bekele's real capability was closer to 1:44.

Those 3:31 guys that you mention probably have much faster 400m times than Bekele. Definitely faster than what you or Bekele said - 51 or 49. But Bekele makes up for it with his superior endurance.

Baala is like a 46 400m type.

no

you don't understand

i am offering him the 1'44 you claim he may have

i then am offering him the 3'31 flat-out which he does have ( a 3'32-flattened out where he lost )

1'44 & 3'31

you therefore have an endurance "ratio" which shoud be unmatched as he is greatest distance runner of all time

however, we have guys like gus choge who went

1'44 & 3'29 in same year !

gus choge got far better endurance "ratio" than kennster ???

why wasn't gus' 5k 12'20 instead of 12'53 ???

Ventolin, the OP mentioned 44 second speed for Bolt. I don't think he has a 400 under 45 which, in my opinion would give a fairly lousy endurance ratio according to your calculator. 200 at 19.2 and 400 at 45.3 would yield what for a 600? Or would this be skewed because we don't have a long enough run to be accurate?

I'm curious, please let me know. I'm guessing Bolt's 600 would be closer to 1:20 to 1:21. Does that seem fair to you?

Thanks
