The first workout was 10x400 w/ 2:40 rest (I know it's long, but it wasn't my decision) averaging 76 seconds. I don't have splits, but I ran the first one in 80 so they definitely got a lot faster at some point. The workout was nearly all out. Workout #2: 10x400 w/ 60 secs rest that went something like 81, 80, 80, 80, 80, 78, 80, 81, 81, 80. This workout was difficult but didn't compare to the first one. I've been having some terrible races lately and I think it might be mostly mental. I started the season running a 5:20.xx 1600m and a 2:20.97 800m at time trials in mid-February (separate days) and those are still my PRs... It's gotten so bad that my last race was a 5:35. So, if you saw someone run those workouts what would you expect their times to look like? Also, I'm a freshman in High School and started running about 8 months ago if it helps anything. |

I think you could do a 10x400 workout with 2:40 rest and average 76 seconds. You could probably also do a 10x400m workout with 60s rest, averaging about 80 seconds. It will be a little easier than the first workout. The real answer? NO FRIGGEN IDEA. Go run the race. |

Thanks for that constructive response. I'm now a better runner just from reading that. |

I consider 12x400 the benchmark for 1500 (or 1600, in your case) pace equivalency, but with jog recoveries, not static. So, I don't think your two workouts were quite full enough for that pace to carry over directly. 81-82's in a race, maybe. Dan |
| just run it |

Agreed. We're not talking about a marathon here. If you want to know how fast you can run an 800m or 1600m, just go run one. |

honestly though it would be different if you were experienced and somewhat fast(2:04-4:40) but its not like it matters when you are this young and all, so just run hard as you can and pr etc till you learn alot more about track, build lots of fitness till next spring and you'llbe fine. |
