What universities are there in St.Louis that have solid running programs? I raced the USA XC there and really like the area and would consider going to college there. |

Yeah I've heard of Wash U but I don't know if I'm smart enough haha. Are they DIII? Are there any other schools in the st.Louis area? I would prefer DII |

Wash U, Truman State, SLU, SIUE (nearby), UMSL, Fontbonne (nobody actually goes there). Truman State might be closer to what you're looking for. |

wash u has an excellent d3 cross country team. slu is next. truman state has a great program and strong distance tradition. if you are a 30 minute 8k guy, go to maryville. go to fontbonne if you are a 29:40 8k guy. |

I've run 15:55 for 5k and 9:42 for the 3200 so I'm assuming I should be faster than 30 for the 8k. But I've never raced that distance so I don't know. I was looking at SLU and Maryville's websites and I like them both. Maryville definitely looks faster than 30 min 8k. There are multiple sub 16 guys. |

I would much rather go to SLU, personally. It's right in the city, good enough team, and the school's decent. Don't know much about Maryville as a school, but it's kind of in its own little bubble in a suburb. |

Not to call you out too much, but didn't you race an 8k at USA XC nationals? At least if you ran the Jr race. But anyway, with your shorter distance times, you should probably aim for 27 minutes to start out and maybe 26's during your freshman year. Possibly even in the 25's if you adjust to the training pretty well. |

Lindenwood University is in St. Charles, not too far outside of St. Louis 30 minutes or so. They have been an NAIA school for years with a lot of good runners and success. They are becoming a DII School. Really nice campus with lots of improvements and St. Charles is a really nice area to run. It's a private school so tuition is high but everyone gets good scholarships. I wouldn't say it has a tremendous academic reputation but not bad. McNair park is a nice place to run. If you don't mind being about 4 hours away from St. Louis Truman State University is a nice school with a great academic rep and great trails and routes to run. Truman State 4th place DII Cross Country 2001 baby!! |

I ran the high school race mostly for run with some of my teammates and it was only a 4k. So I haven't yet run an 8k but, yeah, I was thinking 26 minutes is possible. |

I would definitely recommend looking at SLU. The XC team is definitely on the upswing with mostly a fast core of freshmen and SLU has a new outdoor track facility. On the academic note SLU gives out good academic scholarships and a variety of strong academic programs. The location near Forest Park and also Midtown is a nice plus too |

I as born and raised in the city of St.Louis. I graduated high school there in 2006 but now attend college in another city. I must warn you.... STAY AWAY FROM ST.LOUIS The city is dangerous, offers very little jobs, and is just all around dead. Yes, there may be one or two (at most) cool areas, but there are dozens of cities with great schools that have a tons of cool areas to hang out and have a fun college life. Statistically, STL is one of the most dangerous places in America. I grew up in a nice part of the city and now live in the "ghetto" part of another city and there was far more crime in my "nice" area in STL then my "bad" neighborhood here. Although I appreciate my roots, but I can say with 100 percent certainty that I will never live there again. I am very happy I didn't get to school there and get trapped in the city's cycle. Plus, if you didn't go to high school there you will likely struggle to meet people. |

St. Louis really isn't very dangerous. The problem is that those statistics don't count the St. Louis metropolitan area for some reason (which they do for other cities), which makes it seem more dangerous. I didn't find any more crime than other major cities. It may not be the biggest city in the world, but St. Louis is a pretty nice place. There are some cool neighborhoods, like the CWE, and a good amount of industry. You've got Boeing, AT&T, Monsanto, Anheuser Busch, Ameren, Scottrade, etc, all with major offices in/around the city. |

Which part did you live in? Be realistic, it is quite dangerous. The city has a history of racial tension and violence. Have you driven downtown lately? Wash U. is arguably a top ten university. Take a look at how many of the graduates from that school stay in STL. It really says something when the brightest students instantly leave the city after graduation. |
