Have you guys heard about this kid? He was state champ in FL in XC... He just ran a 151 split in his 4x8, and 9:10 and 4:11 this Saturday at FSU as a junior at Colonial HS... He looks pretty smooth on distancepreps.com in his race videos.... I could see this kid going close to 4:00 with the right competition... Anyone agree? |

Runnerspace wastes a HUGE amount of bandwith on their videos, even more than Flotrack. This video in particular bogs down every second or two. This doesn't happen with videos from anywhere else. |

That's a pretty good time, 4:13 for a mile. However guys were running 4:10 miles on dirt tracks 50 years ago. Maybe Arroyo will run 4:08 by the time he's out of high school. There's no guarantee of any faster times until he runs them on the track. |

I like the 1:51 split speed. Then all 3 times in one day! I think your right that kind of speed seems to be a very good indicator of a 4:00 down the road a bit. Will see if I'm right...and you to. I coached 3 seniors who ran 9:12, then down to 8:57 and just under 8:50...none could hit a 1:51. They got down to around 4:06 for the mile. Only one ever ran a 1:52 and that was fresh and all out for one race. |

I won't be surprised by a sub 4:05 by the time he graduates, but Sub 4:02 is a lot to ask. Likewise, I could see a low 8:50, but sub 8:45 is a long way away. Kid has a lot of talent and good finishing speed and guts, but seems like he lacks a little bit of early pacing judgement and can lose a some focus in longer races. He seems motivated and well-trained. BTW the 3 races at FSU were not all on the same day. Still an impressive weekend though. |

Looks like a new German Fernandez in terms of stride, we'll see if he's the same in terms of toughness. |
