Hey! I am a former collegiate mid distance runner and do not especially want to be confined to just 5K and up races. I was wondering if anyone out there knows about good quality mile races? Other than the Pearl Street Mile and the Manzano Mile I do not know of any. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be most appreciated. Thanks! |

Hawaii has one, I think it's called the Front Street Mile? Bahamas used to have one, still might. I think there is a big one in winter on the East Coast, I forget where though. California has a few, Santa Barbara might have a good one. In the Midwest there is the State Street Mile in Illinois and Madison has the Capital Mile. Minnesota also has the road mile championship if I am not mistaken. |

Where do you live? If you are still fairly fast, running unattached in college track meets could be fun. |

There's one in NC in September - The Lenovo Magnificent Mile in Raleigh. It's usually pretty quick, with someone winning in the 4:10-4:15 neighborhood. It's a good course, flat but not lightning-quick because of 6 corners. I just heard about one in Charlotte, in April, but the winning time last year was something like 4:23. |

What's the one in Charlotte?[/quote] The Musuem Mile: http://www.charlottemuseummile.com/ I've never run it before (it may be new). I got an email from the race organizers this morning saying I should come run it because of my time from a previous road mile. There's prize money, something like $250 for first and descending from there, plus free entry for "elites" (it's something like 5:30 for a mile I think). It looks like fun, but I'm going to have to miss it due to a prior engagement. |

Thanks for the info MonBRO, I may have to hop in this. The winner from last year frequents this board I believe. |

I guess nobody mentioned 5th Ave. Mile, which is the grandaddy. I second the Ridgewood, NJ race. |

Thanks HC for posting the link to our Heart & Sole Festival of Miles! (Sunday, May 20th) Former College Runner: Key for you may be the final portion of our event, the Elite Mile. We're hoping for a sub-4 time, and should have a bunch of guys right around that barrier. Info on the Elite Mile here: http://heartnsolesantarosa.com/fom12elite.html That includes $3,000 total place money plus extra $500 for sub-4's. If you're at all interested in being in this elite portion, shoot me an email. |

twin cities has a mile too. TC One Mile. It's been the US championship a few times IIRC. Also check out the American Milers Club for top-flight track miles if you are on that level. |
