It seems that this class, despite probably being more talented than any since the class of '01, will fail to win a single NCAA title. It's not their fault though, they've also faced stiffer competition than any classes from the recent past. They initially were running against Galen Rupp and now top Kenyans are running in the NCAA again. It certainly didn't help that German Fernandez has been a flop. |

Poor analogy---but Derrick could totally win the steeple on the basis of being the faster ground runner. Most Steepelrs have made their career out of this |

No, it's a perfect analogy. Steeplers are not the fastest "ground runners;" whatever the hell that means. They are the fastest steeplechasers just like the best hurdlers are not the fastest "ground runners" but rather the fastest hurdlers. If it were so easy to move up to the steeple and win far more guys would do it. It's not like they don't want to be NCAA champions. You apparently have no idea how many would be steeplechasers careers last for about a week before they realize that they are no more more suited for the steeple than Usain Bolt is for the 800.

I don't get it, what qualifies as a 'true distance' event? 1500, 3000i, steeplechase, 5000, 10000, cross country? |

True distance events...you mean anything longer than the marathon, right? |

5000 - marathon. Anything less or more is moose shit. |
| cabral will win steep |
| ||
|
Cabral will easily win the Steeplechase this year and he is class of 2008 He has an 8:32.14 PR |
| and that matters? |
| ||
|
doesnt matter if cabral is the fastest going into the season. it matters who is fastest on that day. i have a super long list of examples of guys who entered the season ranked #1 and won the championship. in fact i would wager more pre-season #1's have lost than have won. |

Derrick is coming for Lalang in the 5k. He proved with that 3k that Lawi is not invincible. Yes, Lalang is an amazing talent (and, perhaps a tactically brilliant one, as well), but Derrick is capable of one of the greatest track upsets of all time. I almost shat myself when I saw the end of that 3k. I thought he was going to have it. The passion is there. The speed is getting there. Will he put it all together in June? I say, yes. Chris Derrick has, at the very least, a forty percent shot at the win. |

He proved that Lawi is not invincible by proving he could not win against him...again (i.e., losing to him)? I don't get it. |

you need to either stop crying about it because you are a total b**** or you either are total idiot and does not know anything about the sport! |

No doubt Donn Cabral will win the steeplechase this year |

I think Emma Cobur is class of 2008 and has won the Steeple |

He's not the clear cut favorite. I can easily see someone like Travis Mahoney or Forys beating him. |

The steeple is the poor man's national title. It is much less competitive than the 1,500, 5k, 10k. That is why so many runners jump into the steeple their Jr. Sr. year. They realize just how tough the main events are. Hence Kyle Perry, Justin Tyner and others all switch over in hopes of a title. They couldn't win one any other way. |

Donnie Makowitz will win the steeple. Also, watch out for Mikey Fingertraps. |

I fear that Derrick put all his chips in one basket and lost by next to nothing. Lalang seems very disciplined in his training and I think he is shooting for a good summer and a shoot at the Olympics. His goal is sub 13 for 5k. Only foolish runners go for it all indoors. It burned Batty last year and will get him again. Look at Centro and Wheating they wait until it actually matters. Why won't we learn from the past. Very few runners can maintain peak fitness for more than a month. Lalang is winning even though not in top form because he is just that much better... |
| did you even watch |

Did you even watch the past 2 years??? Matt Hughes and Donn Cabral destroyed the pack. I think Cabral coming a strong second to Hughes the past two years shows he will not be beaten by Mahoney or Forys |

Lalang said in an interview right after Indoors that he is doing just the 5k at outdoors. I'd say that makes Derrick the favorite in the 10k. |
